I'm sure this is a silly question, but will the TRD Off-Road factory suspension fit/be compatible with my SR5 4-Cylinder? I found a like-new set locally for $100 and may pull the trigger so I can have some Bilsteins instead of the stock Hitachis.

Not sure what the difference in spring rates are but I bet it will feel really stiff on your 4cyl truck without any added weight up front

Thanks guys! Didn't think about the spring rate being an issue but it makes sense. Would my front end sit up a little higher because of less weight on the front end?

When did the engine configurations start changing coils?

Second gens had one coil for 6 lug (except for Sport trucks, they had their own) and one coil for 5 lug. Engine/trans/4x4 OEM 4x2 made no difference.

That's what I was thinking, seemed strange to me but just wanted to verify.

    I wouldn't worry about it.

I've not seen anything saying the 2.7 has a different coil, and I'd be extremely surprised if that was true.

For those wondering, I'm tackling the suspension today. Found a complete set of TRD Off Road suspension for cheap locally that was practically brand new.

The rear shocks between the SR5 Hitachi and TRD Bilstein are identical length. Both sides share the same part number so they aren't L and R specific.

    Fits as intended.

Pic of the stock front shock, will have off soon to compare shocks/springs to the TRD.

Nice. Look forward to hearing how it works for you.

As an interesting sidebar, it would be interesting to know the wt of the V6 and the wt of the 2.7. Betting they are not as different as folks might assume.

@Torspd, any input on that? Independent weighing out of the vehicle would seem like the best approach. Have you done that?

That is a good question. Being that the 2TR-FE is a 3RZ with a different head, there should be some data as to how much it weighs. Iron blocks aren't light.

Could very likely make up for the larger size of the aluminum 1GR. I have a few spares laying around. Lol.

What put me onto this idea is the process of removing the iron block 1.8 from a Miata and dropping in an aluminum LSx motor. About 200# up, but not enough to upset the handling balance with a few suspension tweaks. Which were already needed for the 2 gizillion HP increase.

One day I will have that...... What's cooler than driving a Corvette? Driving a Miata powered by a Corvette engine.

Right now I'll just stay with the supercharger until the kids finish school.

So finally got the fronts finished up. Here's stock SR4 4x4 4-cylinder front shocks/springs compared to TRD OR.

    Assembled TRD OR vs SR5

    Installed

So physically, everything matches up but I'm sure it will ride way differently. Will be able to tell you later this evening.
