I see two numbers for towing capacity online, listed as 3500/6400. Is that saying 3500 standard and 6400 with tow package? How can I verify I do have the tow package besides the window sticker? Would like to get a camper and trying to get a ballpark estimate on what weight I should stick to when looking.

    Thanks guys,
    DST

Pop the hood and look for a small transmission cooler in front of the radiator on the lower right hand side. Should be about 4x12 in size. You may be able to see it with out popping the hood. At the rear of the truck there should be the hitch and a 7 pin connector for the trailer hook up. if you have those you have the tow package.

If you have a manual, there will be no tranny cooler. Tow package and factory tow package are 2 different things. A bumper mounted ball is rated for 350/3500. You need a receiver to go higher.

Depending on your locale you need trailer brakes to go above certain weights. 3500 most places. Part of the factory tow package will be easief wiring for a brake controller.

You can look up your vin number somewhere on the Toyota website to see the options on your particular truck. You should keep you weights at less than 4500 lbs or so but the truck it certainly capable of more.

Do you have a towing bar under the rear bumper? If so, then you probably got the towing package.
