I have a 2015 black tacoma. I want to protect the paint as best as possible. I purchased Simoniz Glass Coat Sealant. I read in some reviews that this is mostly a sealant not so much of a protectant. My plans are to:

    Wash/Dry
    Clay Bar Clean
    Apply Simoniz
Apply a quality Wax BLACKFIRE Black Ice Hybrid Montan Sealant Wax is what I have in mind. This is specifically for dark colored vehicles. Before I purchase this wax I wanted to get some input from the forum. What are the thoughts on this application? I understand it is a bit pricey but I want quality products to protect my investment.

Also I have read to apply a quick spray on wax rinse in between car washes to prolong the life of the wax.

Quality feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank You in advance!!

I use all Blackfire products. Sealed the truck in November, wash it all the time and water still beads up on it nicely. Expensive but well worth it to me.

Thats good to hear! I don't want to get lazy and/or cut corners. Should I really Clay Detail the truck? I only have 1200 miles on it. It is labor intensive and time consuming. Is it really necessary on such a new vehicle?

Central Virginia. I live in the woods unfortunately no garage so I have already noticed film on the truck mostly tree crap...no sap though. I wash it about every week or every other week to keep that stuff from collecting on the paint especially since I have not yet applied any protectant.

Thanks will do. I have never clayed but it seems fairly self explanatory. I guess also I will do this in a controlled environment like a garage and apply sealant/wax all in the same day.

Agreed. I didn't think I needed to clay my near-new '14 when I first applied a sealer. But I did it anyway and was really surprised at all the gunk that came off. It made a huge difference. I'll also add- I recently swirled the shit outta my dads black Nissan applying sealer with a microfiber applicator pad. If your truck is black, I'd recommend a foam applicator pad and go easy. Maybe Toyota black paint is tougher. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

Did you purchase the Simoniz from the dealer? I would recommend taking it back. Much better products out there. A sealant should be a protectant as well. That is the point of the sealant to protect the paint longer than a wax will.

Negative. The dealer wanted $500 rediculous. I bought two bottles off ebay for $50 and will do it myself. I already have the product unfortunately. What would your top product be? What would you put on your truck ace96? Top of the line product? I was under the impression that a wax was supposed to protect the sealant...

A good sealant will last 4-6 months. A wax isn't necessary on top of a sealant. I usually use wax to get that extra pop from the paint. I use Adams paint sealant but there are several good sealants out there...Wolfgang, Chemical Guys Jetseal, Klasse, etc.
