Finally got my motor running right again, after a month of fiddling around. ( 95 2.4 22RZ )
Had a couple of stuck valves due to head gasket failure, and a couple of failing injectors, so in putting it back together, noticed the coil under the distributor was cracked, wound up replacing the entire distributor with a $50 cheapie off Amazon and a set of injectors for about the same money.
Got it all assembled, cranked it up, and no bueno.
Had spark timing off by 180*, looked correct by my book, #1 at top right, but #1 is actually the bottom left…
Try again, runs rough, #1 not firing. Went all through spark timing again, all good, then started looking at injectors. Again!
Fuel rail supply banjo crush washers were a major PITA, I’ve got big hands, so had to enlist the Admiral to get the bolt started and plug in the back two injectors.
Finally traced down a bad NEW injector, fortunately hadn’t trashed trashed the old ones yet.
Moral of the story is that although Toyota motors are built by humans that probably aren’t hugely smarter than I, their hands are definitely smaller, and their design process does not take into account working on certain parts of the motor.
    But I won!

Well, my victory was short lived, it’s now almost impossible to start cold without a shot of starting fluid, and won’t idle until fully warmed up, and even then often dies at stop lights.
Seems there’s way too much slack in the throttle cable, even adjusted all the way out.
    What caused that?
