Hello my fellow Tacoma owners!! Ever since picking up my special order 2022 Tacoma TRD Sport Double Cab 4x4 it has had a “ Drift “ to the right!! I have the Cheap ass Firestone Destination LE2 Factory mounted tires and I’ve had my local Toyota Dealership check the alignment and the only thing they found was the steering wheel was slightly off center. On my way home I’m on the freeway and it still wants to drift!! Do these trucks not like to track nice n straight for at least a 1/4 mile on what appears to be a level straight stretch of Freeway? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

My 23' Tacoma with new larger Cooper tires drifted slightly right and the alignment tech keep road testing after each alignment adjustment until the drift was cured. Not necessarily by the book but it worked for my truck.

Hi Raad , Why would it take more than one correctly done alignment to cure a drift to the right?

I don’t understand why after a vehicle is aligned to correct specs , it would still drift and then have to be adjusted again. Adjusted to what degree? True specs should result in driving straight and true!

Because he must have changed the setting each time until it did not drift. I found out the the Cooper ST Maxx tires have a bit of a reputation for drifting right so the truck was not the issue. He solved it for me.

Take it to an independent shop to check out / do an alignment. Probably just a lazy dealership.

A 1/4 mile is a pretty far stretch to not have a slight drift.... are you being too harsh on her? A quarter mile is 3.5 football fields for reference...

Oh , it was the tire!! Did your truck drift to the right relatively soon after letting go of the steering wheel?

I suppose you’re right , 1,320 feet is a long ways to travel without drifting , good point

@betrayus You’re right , just because it was the Toyota Dealership that I purchased my truck from doesn’t mean the person doing the alignment was a tech that gives a s..t about doing their job correctly!!

I’m going to take it to another establishment , a tire shop , and have the alignment checked. Have a long trip to Oregon planned the first of June , Grandson is graduating from high school. Having a SnugTop “ Rebel “ put on my rig while in Oregon!! Only option I went with is the drop down front window so I can easily clean the outside glass of the canopy and the rear window of the Tacoma! Color match “ Barcelona Red Metallic “ out the door installed for $3,450 No Sales Tax!! Least expensive here in Arizona ( Phoenix area ) $4,100 so I’m saving $650. I can take it to any SnugTop dealer to have any warranty work that may have to be done so all my bases are covered!! I have the 6’ foot Bed and I’m putting “ The Original AirBedz “ Inflatable custom fit mattress put in so my wife & I can comfortably sleep in the back of the Tacoma!! The SnugTop REBEL comes standard fully carpeted and the easy pop out lock / latch and an LED light , we’re adding 2 LED strip lights from
TEMU and the canopy comes with 2 nice size windows , one on each side that slide open and have a screen. It also comes standard with “ 2 USB Ports “ via the rear brake light on the canopy!! Should work out nicely and we can LOCK our belongings in the back now without worrying about stuff being stolen!! Thanks again guys!!

    Post your alignment sheet.

BTW: if I took my hands off the wheel of any automobile and it stayed on the road for 1/4 mile, I would be impressed. I don’t get annoyed until it leaves the lane after 2 seconds or so (~176 feet at 60 mph)

Yeah. Slight pull to the right is normal because the slope of the road. Does it still pull to the right when you get in the left lane?

All of my Trucks, Toyota or otherwise, want to follow every slope and groove on the road. It just is what it is.

I’ll never understand why people test things by letting go of the wheel. That doesn’t prove much of anything. If it’s pulling, you’ll feel it in the wheel. If it’s so slight that you don’t feel it in the wheel when holding the wheel, then you don’t have a problem. Letting go of the wheel to watch the vehicle slightly move in one direction doesn’t tell you anything, you don’t drive hands free.

Every truck I have ever owned has had a slight “drift” to the right. Unless it’s a pull that you can feel, forget about it.

Do what you feel and keep both feet on the wheel.

It's gotta be the road crown sensitivity you're feeling. Find a three lane highway and ride the center lane for a while and test it out. Then try the left and right lanes to compare. I think it's just a level of crown sensitivity you aren't accustomed to.
