Im gonna play a bit more with pinion angles but for 500ish to do it right with a DC center joint on an oem shaft.... I might just end up doing that. Ill have to call around locally to see what people will quote me.

I would so much like to have a one peise drive shaft made but they don't make one for a prerunner. Which really sucks !

Dakar CS047R. Shop wants me to come back to measure my pinion angle and, if necessary, to give me shims to install. Even without any shims (installed the shaft last night) it is super smooth under full-throttle acceleration and at all speeds.

Very cool! Looks like you got hooked up! Very happy to hear it did the trick for you!

I'm also interested to see what they give you with regards to shim/pinion angle recommendations. When you go back please let us know what they say!

I have shims in mine from when I had tried them prior to getting the two piece shaft. Works fine but I don't think they are needed. I just never got around to taking them out. I'm going to experiment soon and see how it does without them!

Hey, boys. Sorry for tagging you, but I'm hoping for a quick answer. My driveshaft is currently at a reputable driveline shop near me, and they gave me a quote for the double cardan conversion. He's telling me $730 + tax, which is a bit steep for my liking. He was talking to me for like 10 minutes about the parts he'd need to use and the process, 90% of which went right over my head. But one point he did make was that he'd have to use a 1310 joint, which, technically, is weaker than the stock 1330. Seeing as I do wheel this truck kind of hard out in the middle of nowhere, that worries me. But should I be worried? How much weaker is it?

He also mentioned that my CB is pretty much shot. I'm wondering, is that a cause or is that a symptom....? I've been driving with this take-off wobble for about 16 months now, so it wouldn't surprise me if I've turned it to mush.

As much as this vibe is driving me insane, I'm not sure I'm ready to drop almost $800 on a driveline mod that may or may not work. Especially one that makes it weaker over all.

    Thanks for any advice.

Interesting. Mine is a non grease-able 1310; shop that built it says they're stronger than the grease-able 1310 because they're not cross-drilled.

As far as 1330 vs. 1310, found this comparison chart on the internet, so it must be true:

You should also look into tube specs if you are concerned with strength. Mine is 2.5" dia .134" wall front, 3.0" dia .125" wall rear.

Best to replace the CB while you are at it. I was told that the CB drop I had helped kill the old one.

My guy told me the exact same thing, that non grease-able are stronger than grease-able, and that you'll never find a grease-able joint on any of his vehicles. Regardless, he still said the 1310 would be weaker than what is currently there, and that Toyota probably used 1330 for a reason. idk. It didn't instill a whole lot of confidence in what he was going to do.

Since the CB needs to be replaced anyways I was thinking of going the IEDLS route, but @nd4spdbh seems to still have issues with it.

... and now I'm thinking of just going back to the original Tom Woods single-piece alternative. I really don't want to mess with that center support though.

    Sigh. I hate this shit.

Do the math on your driveshaft rpm before you decide to go one piece. You might find, as I did, that it doesn't meet your needs due to low critical speed rating on a shaft that long. As an example, a truck with a tire diameter of 31.6" and 3.73 gears has a driveshaft turning at 2,972 rpm at 75 mph.

Are you talking about the carrier bearing when you refer to the center support? Cause you don't use that with the Tom Wood's single piece shaft, just take off the old one. I've got a Tom Wood's on my 2015 dcsb and it's been great so far.

No, sorry. I meant the metal cross member that supports the CB. Guys that have ordered the 4" single-piece have had to hack (or totally remove) that cross member to gain the clearance needed to cycle the suspension. I mean, I'd want a 4" for future-proofing, but not if I lose my ability to revert back to a dual-piece if need be.

Did you get the 3.5"? If so, I assume you're still stock gears? Any issues with 70mph yet?

    Thanks.

I think the main issue i am having is axle wrap. Even with my budbuilt traction bar and hard joints everywhere, there is still so much flex in the cross member that it still allows axle wrap. Shitty stock leafs with a shitty 1 leaf AAL is to blame.

My conundrum is this though. I have really stopped doing much in the way of off roading in my truck. I can go back to stock height easy and get rid of almost all my vibes for essentially free so i might just do that. Rather than spend more on a leaf pack, then still probably spend more on a double cardan joint setup in the center for something i wont use and hurts my mpgs.

Okay, my bad - didn't read back far enough. I got the 3.5 on stock gears, and have had no vibes and been up to 75mph without issue.

I have the 4" one piece from Tom Woods. I did have to take out the crossmember that held the carrier bushing. As long as you make a clean cut, it can be welded back in easily. The shaft was $560 shipped, which is a lot better than $800. Tom Woods customer service is awesome as they walked me through the differences between the 3.5 diameter shaft vs the 4. I have no vibes and life is good. Good luck OP, let us know how you make out.
