So you pointed the pinion flange up?

    Any carrier spacer?

I’m leaning heavily towards a one piece at this point. The vibes are driving me nuts

Just do it. The cost isn't the worst and plenty of benefits aside from maybe getting rid of the vibes

I’ve been through 3 carrier bearings and a bunch of ujoints in 108k miles. I’ve also blown up pinion bearings in the rear diff, twice now. So, maybe $700 for a driveshaft aint so bad :anonymous:

Do you have a build list with part numbers?

I would very much like to take my shaft to a shop and have them do this to mine.

What spiders does the Tom Woods double cardan use? 1310 or 1330 or something else?

This is the information I have been pouring over this thread for.

Dana 300 TC yoke is the ticket.

    Thank you!

You're still running a stock Carrier Bearing?

Considered the IEDLs urethane Ranger Carrier like @ItalynStylion had?

Stylion, are you still running the IEDLs flipped with the aluminum tube spacers?

That's not the Dana 300 yoke, did you have to do the step down stub conversion?

I don't suppose you have the parts breakdown invoice handy?

Once I went with the two piece double cardan shaft I went back to an OEM carrier bearing. Been running it for close to 100k miles at this point.

During my hours of researching and traipsing about to find a drive shaft solution I discovered the 1st gen Tundra shaft is effectively exactly what I'm looking for just the lengths are a little too long but that's the easiest thing to change for a driveshaft shop.

Two pieces, bolt flange connection in the middle, double cardan immediately after that and slip yoke at the diff end plus everything has zerks for greasing I believe.

    05-06-Toyota-Tundra-V8-4x4-Rear-Driveshaft-Drive-Shaft-Prop-Propeller-Assy-1494-334323445074.jpg

    05-06-Toyota-Tundra-V8-4x4-Rear-Driveshaft-Drive-Shaft-Prop-Propeller-Assy-1494-334323445074-4.jpg

When I get home I'm going to crawl under my Uncle's Tundra I'm borrowing to see if it uses the same Spicer 66x66mm square diff and TC flange bolt pattern ends but knowing Toyota I can just about guarantee it; I believe the 1st gen Tundra uses the same rear diff and transfer case as the 2nd gen Tacoma.

Biggest boon is the double cardan itself; from what I can tell from a few hours of googling it isn't the smaller Spicer 1310 series most folks whom have done DC conversion use but rather a Koyo made DC which is closer in size to the Spicer 1350 series (though slightly smaller like a non existent 1340 series) I'm not as positive on that, it could be a Spicer 1310 but when I get home I'm going to be taking the caliper and getting some measurements.

I may be able to get away with making extension rails for the center support bearing for the front half (which as I've discovered uses the same exact Spicer one the Tacoma uses!) And just have the rear half shortened to save a couple bucks and the number of custom parts making it easier to replace if ever need be.

Only concern there in doing so (assuming the front half is longer) would mean the angle of the 2nd shaft would be a little greater, though if by enough to matter I don't know but if I can keep the front half a stock part I think I would prefer it.

This is all assuming the 1st half of the Tundra shaft will be too long, it might not be, might be too short don't know and unfortunately my Uncle's is a 2WD not a 4WD so I may get measurements through other means...

    :spy:

This seems to be the best option I can come up with and from what I've seen modifying a Tundra shaft hasn't been done yet which surprises me, didn't see mention of it reading this whole thread though I could wrong.

    Thoughts?

I believe 1st gen Tacomas had this type of drive shaft too. That's where my inspiration came from on making the two piece shaft.

    Did I do what?

Well, my 3rd Gen Tom Woods came in....I'm running 4.88s and when I called it they said to go w/the 3.5" instead of the 4" because they've been running into issues w/the 4". They said I should be good up to 80 mph with 31.6" tires, so we shall see. I'm trying to decide if I have the guts to try to install it tomorrow.
