My truck has developed a vibration and sound under heavy acceleration coming thru transmission tunnel. I can feel it in the shifter. Is this indicative of a carrier bearing? I can shove on the drive shaft at the bearing and it will move up and down about 1/2". Truck is stock suspension 6spd and has 57k. Also, tom woods doesn't make the one driveshaft anymore for 2nd gens. Does anyone else make a one piece driveshaft?

That's a bummer about TW. I had dented my prior DS so it was way out of balance and the TW single piece did the trick for me. If I were in your shoes I'd probably replace the carrier and see since that is relatively cheap given you're on stock suspension with only 57k miles. Damn that's low for a 2009. My symptoms were consistent with yours, but only noticeable in the 35-50mph range -- which sucked. I'm sure you could get a custom driveshaft made from someone local if you call around. Prior to the TW I talked to a local company here that was willing to make one, but the price was going to be the same. I still have it on my plate to take my old one to this place and see if they can balance it.

I think I found the issue. It looks like a part of the carrier bearing is rubbing on the inside of the outer shell. In the yellow ring photo you can see the angle on that one piece where it has been rubbing.

So Tomwoods sells the front but not the rear, is anyone using just the front or did you just get a custom one piece?

I have the rear one, I haven’t heard a big reason to use front but I was thinking about it. Someone stated that the front only spins when in 4wd but I thought the CVS were always spinning on automatic 4wd so not sure.

on the rear I swapped out and still had vibrations but after tilting the pinion upwards 2.5 deg to eliminate the double angle (as suggested by TW) it got a lot better. Also got my tires balanced. Need to try 3.5deg next but ordering new center pin for leaf plus extenders so I can get that bolt head into the axle perch.

I think a lot of people expected a one step solution to a complex and self inflicted problem. Yay ‘Mercia for ruining it for the rest who didn’t already purchase a TW shaft.
