Hmmm, very interesting. I've not heard this before but now I'm a bit worried as I'll be regearing next week which will obviously change my cruising RPM. I've never heard that drive shafts have a "top speed" per se (and I was not informed of this) so this is certainly news to me.

I'm not trying to scare you, I just think it's something you and others should know. I've been dealing with vibrations for going on 2 years now, and I'd considered a single piece driveshaft until I started talking to shops and reading about how they didn't fix things on TW. I'm not saying your truck is mystically going to self-destruct on the highway, but it's a issue sometimes. If Tom Woods said it was okay, I'd roll with it. As long as they've been building driveshafts, they wouldn't sell it (would they?) if it put someone at risk of major repairs.

Thanks for the advice Sir. We will see how it feels Tuesday afternoon when I get the truck back from my regear and locker install. I'll take it out on the highway and see how it does at that point!

Ok stupid question, I'm assuming I have to remove my existing drive shaft to get all the measurements?

Thank you for bringing this up. Based on my calculations (31.6" tires, 3.73 gears) the driveshaft is spinning at 3000 RPM at 75.64 mph. 3000 RPM is what their measuring guide calls "expected maximum operating speed". Food for thought.

Please report back. After getting over 4" of lift in the rear I've been getting some nasty take-off vibes between 5-8mph. I'm looking to this driveshaft as a solution.

I have 3* shims and 3/4" carrier bearing drop. I have vibes below 10mph only when accelerating. I believe it is the carrier bearing bushing causing the vibrations. Never really bothered me, I'm well over 4" rear lift.

If you drive with excessive constant vibrations for a long time, you can wear out the pinion bearings, or the T-Case output bearings, thus making the vibrations worse, and present when you modify your D-Shaft.

Calling Tom Woods tomorrow to order my one piece double cardan. Tired of chasing this bullshit every week. Was this just simply bolt-on, is there a specific details/tips you would give based off your install? Thanks

Bolt on. My current install uses some 2 degree shims on the rear axle (very cheap) and a 3" lift. It fixed the vibrations for me. I'll wait to post a full report once I get the truck regeared tomorrow. I should have the truck back Tuesday night. I say this because I want to see if any vibrations occur due to the shaft having to spin faster due to the shorter ratio in the rear diff. I'll update once I get it back.

I just watched your video again, and the 42-second vibe looks exactly like the one I have now. A strong pulse that lasts about half a second, just after take-off. This happens even under normal acceleration. I didn't have it when I installed the Allpro leaf packs. But a couple months later I added an AAL, which gave me over another inch of lift, then the vibe started.

... well, that's when this particular vibe started. Because lets face it, this drivetrain has given me various vibes since I pulled it off the lot.

Thanks, yeah sounds like I have a similar lift as you. I too have the 3* axle shims. Looking forward to hearing a full report, thanks again

Hey man, one more question, were you able to reuse the mounting bolts or did you have to get new ones? They told me the flange they use is thicker than the oem flange and I may need
longer bolts, but I think that was before I spoke with Tom himself, he didn't mention it so I am thinking the other guy might have been confused. Thanks

Just to confirm, you ordered it with the exact measurement numbers in Stylion's OP, correct?

I have a DC long bed and although I've heard this is just a SB problem, I have read a few instances of LB Tacomas getting this vibe. If it ever happens to me, Im going to order one!

Yes, I took my own measurements but they ended up being identical to Stylion's, so that's what I went with. I didn't need the "A" measurement, Tom said all Toyotas used the same male/female part of the flange at the transfer case and differential. I'll let you know this weekend if I run into any trouble with the install.
