I do not own a Tacoma....researching to compare with other vehicles. I own an LG Android phone right now.

I read about Siri Eyes Free. Sounds like it works only with an iPhone? If someone has an Android phone only, how will that affect voice recognition with the Entune system? Can I still dial my Android phone hands free? Control the navigation system? Change radio channels, etc.?

In other words, with this truck (2017 Tacoma TRD OR with Prem & Tech package) what will I gain by switching to an iPhone? Or, what functions will I NOT be able to use (hands free calling, navigation commands, etc) if I keep my Android phone?

    Thanks

The truck has it's own voice recognition system that lets you do a bunch of functions. See here: http://touch.toyota.com/entune/support/

If you have an Iphone, you can also press-and-hold the phone off-hook button in the steering wheel controls and it'll wake up Siri to do your bidding.

Basically, Siri eyes-free is a superset of functionality that doesn't take away from the truck's own functionality.

I don't know if the same off-hook button press wakes up Ok Google if your phone is android.

Siri Eyes Free became a standard feature on almost the whole Toyota line up in 2016. Its a very nice tool

Voice commands still work with Android phones. The Siri feature is so iPhone users can still use that iOS feature as well. Doesn't limit the standard android features.

Now getting Google Assistant built into the stock system would be amazing.

Thanks. I was hoping it would work that way, since I don't now have an iPhone.

Thanks. Yes, the "OK Google" on my chrome book works reasonably well and it would be convenient in a vehicle. I think it's interesting that at least some of the Tacoma photos I've seen show an LG phone (Android) describing that charging station, yet Toyota obviously has ties to iPhone with Siri Eyes Free.

    If only Siri didn't suck.

It's also odd that they added wireless charging which the iPhone doesn't support, while supporting this iPhone specific voice function.

    Figure your shit out Toyota!

Personally, I'd like to see Android auto or at the very least a Waze app.

Each to their own. Siri works as well as any voice-recognition system I've had. Not perfect at all, better than suck though in my opinion.

Siri eyes free support is nothing more than button on the steering wheel instead of the home button on the phone. Big f'ing deal.

Qi support works fine with an iphone if you add a Qi supportive case. Still kinda pointless to have it in a cubby where you can't use Waze. That's why I built my charging magnetic mount.
