Have you ever received a call from the dealer saying it is time for your oil to be changed, if so, that is the cellular contacting corporate.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
My XM reception has been somewhat affected since I put my roof rack on. Not terrible, but it does drop out easier now than it ever has.

What is available to cover the hole left by removing the shark fin? I guess I could 3D print something...assuming the antenna has a rubber gasket.

I do get emails, but they never correspond with the service light indicator.

Same with the rack, but far worse with the cargo box.

Service light on the dash is vehicle generated; dependent upon when it was reset. Emails are corporate cellular communications with your truck.

The real info starts at post #8.

Where did you end up putting the remote antenna?

I put the antenna inside in the dash and no problems here.

I have it mounted on the hood (driver's side, near the corner closest to the window). When I first placed it there I wasn't sure how well it would stay put, but it has been there for the better part of a year and no issues with movement (many miles off-highway).

    Cheers

I just can't belive that people are paying for gps service from toyota in this day and age. Google maps and Waze are all free, and definitely better than toyotas outdated gps service. Seeing how most people use their phones for everything, I don't understand using those old school methods in this day and age. I can barely believe people are listening to AM/FM, let alone XM radio, when you can listen to your favorite music, podcasts, or even radio starions right from your phone. I would not worry about those things at all. Use the usb plug on the dash so that you can use android auto or apple car play. The Bluetooth connection will handle anything that car play and android auto doesn't. There are so many services that don't require you to pay Toyota for them. I don't really listen to AM FM radio in my vehicle because I hate the length of the commercials and I would rather be able to choose what I'm listening to versus being played random music. Also most of the radio stations can be found on the App Store and you can listen to them anywhere you have your phone. If I was to remove my Shark van I would not care about losing AM FM or XM Radio. You can get all of that stuff on your phone so it doesn't make sense to pay Toyota. Sorry if I'm ranting. I just don't get it. I would understand if this was 10 years ago or so but not in today's world.
