I've been using a 2 month trial subscription of Sirius XM, and enjoy it almost enough to pay th $15 per month to listen to oldies, some sports, etc. that I don't get over the airwaves.

I get pretty good reception on the road, even in moderately wooded areas. My frustration is while driving downtown. We don't have what you would call skyscrapers here; a few 20 story buildings; most are about 5 to 10. I get just enough outages to be frustrating.

I'm wondering if the trial version receives from just one satellite, and maybe the paid version connects with two or more, or is it "what you see is what you get" with the trial vs. paid subscription?

Also, only a few inches of travel at an intersection can make a difference in reception. I wonder are there any add-on auxiliary satellite antennae that can be added to the front or rear of the truck for increased reception?

Just a question... does your headunit have navigation also?

i will never again give that company any of my cc or account info. way back when they merged with xm ( i was an xm sub at the time) it took an act of congress, and me canceling my credit card for them to STOP charging me. i had friends that had 400$ charges on their accounts for lifetime subscriptions they they never asked for.

they are a horrible company and i will never use them again. personally i think their programming is stale, compared to what XM used to be. i have been using Slacker radio ever since, cheaper, programmable, and i think you get a little more control over it. just my o.o2

    i loathe SIRIUS XM

I have XM also and I don't pay with a charge. I pay one time yearly with a check so I don't run in that issue. Also if I don't get a good rate. I won't keep it.

Call them and have them check your signal again.

Whenever I go to town there are buildings maybe 4 or 5 stories and I get some dead spots driving thru there.

Ok, I think I will try this. Thank you for the instructions. I was going to cancel anyway, but I will disconnect first then cancel.

The worst company I have ever had to deal with. We have had them for almost 6 years and finally decided to drop them this year. They have terrible customer service and their website is shit too. Every year they talk more and more and it is getting almost as bad as regular radio. I read an article that laid out how much they saved in royalties for every thirty seconds they talked between songs and it has gotten worse every year.

Unfortunately this has also been my experience. Just about the time i find something worth listening to I am almost done with my commute. [deleted], it's still almost not worth having. I find I listen to podcasts on my phone more often than not.

Agreed, they are horrible to deal with.

I had XM when it was just XM in my 94 S-10 when I was going to college. I had a 4 hour drive when I came home plus it was nice to listen when I drove around town as well. When I started work I just kept paying.

A guy passed out and hit me head on a couple years after starting work, completely destroyed the truck and nearly killed me and my girlfriend. I was laid up and going through all the insurance, surgery and such and I cancelled XM.

They called at least 3-4 times after I cancelled. It was pathetic, one guy kept trying to talk me into renewing. I told him the truck was destroyed and the radio was gone. He said they could get a subscription for my new vehicle, I told him I couldn't drive yet and hadn't got another vehicle yet. He told me they could sell me a mobile unit that you clip to your belt while you're walking, I started getting pissed and told him I couldn't walk! It was the truth too, I couldn't get around without a walker at that point and it took a few months after that to go slowly with a cane. I still have problems almost 10 years later.

The only reason I ever connect the XM tuner in any aftermarket head unit I've put in is because Crutchfield sometimes provides the hardware with the radio and so I can listen for the 2 weeks or so that they give free programming.

I've never tried the tip above, however I do know you can haggle with them. My Mom has the full package in her Mustang and pays well under $10 a month. When renewal time comes up start telling them its too expensive and you're going to have to disconnect. They'll start making offers.

I have had xm a few yrs now and pay under $30 for 6 mo. Like above you need to call before they auto renew and haggle a little. Don't forget or you will pay the full amount. I think the cheapest you can get it for that I heard off is what I pay. $ 25 + tax + more bs stuff= just under $30 for 6 mo.

Man, I love my xm! I've had it for almost two years and can't live without it. I have aong commute so streaming from my phone would use all my data, and local radio sucks.

As mentioned above I haggle everytime and it works everytime. They're already blasting out the signal, you've already got the hardware, so they'd rather make some money than no money.

OP, the coverage is no different on trial vs paid.

Thanks for all the input, guys. I'm not interested in stealing the service; I may subscribe if it's cheap enough. I don't need it really, but I do enjoy the special channels, such as 50's and 70's...two of my favorite genres. I like to listen to Sinatra once in awhile too.

Also, when you unplug the antenna for the 45 days...doesn't it wipe out the navigation system as well?
