I had Sirius/XM in cars since 2006 when ypu got those plug in things that connected to your radio, it wasn't built in. I stopped too about 3 years ago. I would play the renewal game too to get a lower price and I usually got the "mostly music plan.
At first when I got it I loved listening to Howard Stern. I actually met him in 2004 in the Keys. I loved how he was about pushing boundaries on speech and what you could say on the radio. He was anti establishment and against the political machine. Then he just seemed to be annoying and I tuned out. Now I see he has as you say turned politically so it seems and wants to be governed harder by the machine.
The music stations have way too much repetition and play lists that are not very deep that I see no point in paying for the subscription.

I became a hard core cord cutter in 2021. ditched cable and only keep a streaming service and Amazon prime. I started to use a program called Plex to organize my digital movies, tv shows, music and record live TV. So in my truck I use the Plexamp music app to stream my big collection of MP3 files and CD's ripped to FLAC files, listen to Amazon Prime music or listen to talk radio via an FM translator.

I've followed a similar path (subd since 04) except I've stuck with it for the aforementioned reasons and if I want to hear different things from the genres I prefer I put on the deep cut channels. Watching Stern go from being all about freedom to basically saying those who weren't scared to leave their house were idiots and the constant "gay" stuff it got old for me. A lot of days on my commute I just listen to the Libertarian podcasts I like and if I run out of them I flip to Sirius streaming music channels as that's what I've got in my commuter. I really can't stomach "Hoo Hoo Howie" anymore though.

I wanted to add I was listening to him since his early WNBC NY days as a kid riding my bicycle with a Radio Shack bike radio on the handlebars and I was definitely too young to be listening to his show but he managed to drive me away. :(

I have an 06 Acura RL.. I purchased it in 2010. I have had Sirius XM free since. I wonder if it was a lifetime subscription from the previous owner or something with the RL?

I’ve done this for my truck, my wife’s car and for my dad’s Tacoma. Found this deal on Reddit. The key was naming the 3 year music and entertainment package for $99 including taxes/fees. I did it all through the chat option each time.

Wow you listened to Howard for a long time. He got syndicated on a local FM station here in the Susquehanna valley for a while. That was before the Satellite radio deal. He did get on the gay stuff a lot. I remember he used to have Richard Simmons on as a guest. He'd always ask him if he was gay, which upset Richard and he'd leave crying. I always thought the "gay" stuff he did was sometimes mean and lowbrow but I got a thick skin and am not easily offended.
I miss a few stations from XM though. The Spectrum, played a lot of good older classic rock and newer music that didn't suck.
Deep Tracks was pretty good. I liked Prime Country and Road trip radio. Not enough to open my wallet and pay them again apparently.

I got tired of doing the annual circle jerk dance with SxM so I told them to pack sand. My wife already pays for YouTube music so I just use that via the Bluetooth connection gizmo (you can tell I am highly technical).

@Taco_mike73 yeah, one of the few perks of growing up in NYC in the early 80's I guess. I lived in western NJ for a few years when he was syndicated to Philly so we could listen to either the NYC or Philly one.

I'm trying to remember when we got him here. 1998-1999 maybe. He was still on the air here in 2002 when I started my current job because our Network admin at the time always had him on in his office to he took the deal to go satellite exclusively and not be as regulated by the FCC.

I let mine expire and blocked the numbers that they were calling me from.

Now I just use the 3 month activator for free.

With tax and royalty fees I have been paying $72 or $76 (I can’t remember the exact amount) a year for many years for their full lineup.

I think last time I did the cancel/call thing they gave me a 2 year plan at the same 5 a month. I'm fine with that price. I have Spotify also, but a lot of the time I don't want to brother with finding something I want to listen to, so I still like the radio experience.

Always play them…..SXM would rather cave to your $5 a month offer than have a car capable of their service on the road and not getting at least something.
