The SiriusXM radio "free" 6 month trial period will be over on my truck in June. I received a re-subscription letter in the mail the other day and i'm not sure if it's worth the fees. Monthly = $15.99; 6months = 29.94; 1 year = $99.00. If I don't subscribe, does that mean the "apps" cant be used, like Pandora, etc and AM/FM is the only option?

I'm a noob and there are a lot of areas I haven't explored with the satellite radio, but so far I like the content and genre coverage (even though it is repetative). I trying to justify spending $99.00/year on Satellite radio, but i'm not really sure what it gets me.

Any thoughts through experience from members here?

    Thanks in advance!

Call them and ask if they have any promotions. I pay 30 bucks every 6 months for my subscription. I call them every 6 months and tell them I'm going to cancel, and then they try to sell me on staying. I tell them I won't pay a dollar more than the promotional 6 month 30 dollar rate. And tell them I don't use the service very often or really need. And basically I repeat that every 6 months. I'm also not bluffing, and am ready to cancel if they try to jack up my rate. Good luck, has worked for me for 2 years.

I didn't subscribe, XM has zero value for me. I get all of my content through my phone which is connected via bluetooth. I do pay for Google music on my phone, it's about $10/mo. It's a little more expensive but I can listen to it when I'm not in my truck also, like at my desk when I'm working. Added bonus is that it comes with Youtube Red account, ad free videos!

When your trial period is up, call and cancel. They will do anything to keep you as a customer. I normally get 6 months for 30 bucks.

I’ve had XM for 10years and can’t imagin going back to regular radio. If you use it as much as I do, it’s totally worth it.

Channel one always has a promotion going. Keep track of the promotions but don't call and subscribe until after they cut off your free trial. They may cut you off right at the date or maybe several months later.

If you like a keep it, just wait, as mentioned they’ll do almost anything to sign you back up....

That said XM isn’t worth $.02 to me.... didnt listen too it once while it was free.... same songs over and over and over just like the radio. Always tried it in my previous trucks (they gave a year though) and it was the same than.

    7F98B80E-2EA0-46CD-BAA8-285299B9C6FD.jpg

Throw a mount from Hondo Garage up on the dash and rock out with whatever APPs you choose.

And no you do not need XM for the apps, mapping, gps, or even traffic alerts....

I wouldn’t put my money in XM stock In the next few years, another technology being replaced with you mobile device. But this is of course all just my opinion.

FWIW, the dash screen shows insufficient connectivity because i yanked my phone to take the picture.

If you do cancel be prepared to get calls from them every few weeks spoofing your local area code. They are the worst about that. If I ever buy another new vehicle I won't be giving the dealership that information to pass along to Sirius.

That's what I do. I think it's worth $6/month. But mark the date so you don't automatically get kicked up to a higher rate after 6 months.

You can still use Pandora or other music apps, as well as FM radio.
That being said, when our trial ran out after about the 4th e-mail from them I decided to call them and see what they would do. I told them that the trial didn´t really seal the deal. They asked what it would take, so I said probably 6 months free since we don´t spend a lot of time in the vehicle. The lady said please hold, she came back and said done. They didn´t have any credit card info or anything from me, so I knew I would not be charged, unless they sent a bill, which I would then dispute. After that ¨trial¨ was up, I continued to get e-mails for 6 months for 30 dollars, which seems to be the norm for most people here. I did not subscribe nor did I ever get billed for that extra 6 months because its just not for me, Pandora works well for my needs.
Point is, don´t pay full price for it, but at a discount its not bad.

My 2017 came with a free 3 month subscription and I had a year left over from my old Tacoma, just got an email the other day about renewing.

I let my free sub run out and never renewed. I went for service at the dealer and they gave me another free trial. I have yet to sign back up. There is nothing on there that matters to me, so I will probably not unless I am planning a trip where normal radio doesn't get decent recrption.

Do not give them a credit card number. Have them bill you via invoice, or better yet, Best Buy sells SiriusXM gift cards that you
can enter into your account online and renew using that credit.

They were doing the 6 month $30 or 12 mo $60 deal when I canceled.

My favorite part was they for some reason think they are wildly intelligent when they tell you “no wait, we can do better than $30 for 6 mo, we can do $60 for a year!” I’m like sure so it’s the same rate...

I have lifetime membership though that my wife uses from her father, so no need to subscribe anymore.

We mainly just wanted it because my wife likes to listen to it while working from home, but they do not offer any sort of Internet listening only package. You have to have full service or no service.

30 for 6 months is the best deal, and then cancel, renegotiate.

No. It just means no sat radio.

Only you can decide if you are in vehicle enough hours to justify the cost because you find other options inadequate.

If I was a cross country trucker I'd likely play. But for me there are more free options that I can ever use.

Thanks for chiming in. 6mo/$30 is one that was on their re-sub letter, which seems like the better deal to me.

Ok, good to know I can use the apps independent of XM.

I most certainly will not give my CC info to them and will likely pay by check so it's cut and dry.

Thank you all for your input/opinions! I think I know where i'm going forward from here.
