Already been stated, but my mind immediately thought that this would be perfect for the drive-ins. To the extent that I might actually build one of my own!

I'm not as tall as you, but this summer I scored a low camp chair someone abandoned. It's like 4" off the ground and reclines to a few positions, and almost flat. It's become my favorite chair for beach or camping. Kind of like this, but slightly nicer. [IMG]

Also, where are you posters in here, where there are still drive-ins? What year is this? I'm waiting for a post about these being great for sock hops.

Central Pennsylvania has 2 within 20 minutes of my house. Call it old fashioned, but we still have 50's-styled diners as well. No roller skates though as that's likely somehow going to get OSHA upset.

Also, I'm only 32, but I loved going to the drive-in's as a kid and my sister's kids love it now. 2 (or 3) movies for $6/person sure beats $15/person at the indoor theaters.

Nice work, but to me it seems like a solution in search of a problem. Doesn't seem super comfy, I'd rather sit at the tailgate end of the truck than have to crawl up in there, and you'd have to store that assembly someplace when it's not in use. So why re-invent the wheel when you can get something like this that's more comfortable, easy to store and can be used anywhere?

BTW these often go on sale for about $50.

Oh I know there are a few scattered about. But they're few and far between out there.

I'm surprised to hear that drive-ins are still a thing. I've not only never been to one but I've never even seen one in person...operating or run down.

My Local drive in closed a couple years ago, sucks cause it was a lot of fun. They said they had to close because Hollywood changed the format of the films and they would have had to spend a couple hundred thousand dollars to convert the projectors.

Our local drive-in's both had community fund raisers as well as a huge portion of the money from a Pepsi assistance program to help fix this very thing.

Just curious. How is the back braced? Does it come in contact with the truck? As cars rubbing?

I cut the back rest in an angle to lean into the back of the truck bed and glued and screwed it tight so it won't move. While I drive there is no vibration what so ever I've taken it even to the toll road and driven 100+ and it sits very well snugged. Also got it bedlined to keep it safe from the weather. (I hope lol) next step is to make some cushion seats that'll fit just right. I know a few people saying I should buy or they would buy some chairs but rather make something by hand.
