I'm new to the Tacoma world/Offroading world, and I also don't know much about the right gear I should have or anything of that nature. Among my offroading friends, they all talk about the infamous 35-inch tire. I was just curious as to what size lift/any other modifications would I need to install to be able to put 35-inch tires where the tire wouldn't hit the wheel well at full flex? I'm currently running 30-inch tires with either a 1-1.5 inch lift. I'm unsure as to how tall of a lift it has because when I bought the truck the dealer did not know exactly how tall it was. My friends said its somewhere around 1-1.5 inches. I've attached a picture of the truck; If anyone could estimate what the current lift size is, or tell me how I could figure out exactly how tall it is that would be great. Thanks, I could use all the help I can get!IMG_9378.jpg

Yup, Doesn't mean shit if the tire only clears at 1/2/3" of lift. Your tire should clear throughout the full range of travel

Take a picture of where your front shocks mount to the frame (coil bucket) and where your rear leaf springs meet your axle. Show us that and we can tell what you have on there.

You can run 35's with a 6" drop bracket lift without doing much in the way of fender well / cab mount modifications - but drop bracket lifts are not the ideal set up for offroad. You can run 35's on 3" of lift (coil overs) if you liberally apply a sledge hammer and do a cab mount chop, which requires cutting and welding on the frame.

You don't need 35's to wheel. You should definitely get a dozen offroading trips under your belt before spending money on the truck. Figure out what you need to accomplish what you want to do, and go from there.

Are the 35's mainly for looks or performance off road? That really affects which way you should go.

You'll need 40"s and SAS if you plan to offroad a trail limo :drevil:

You'd have to do a lot to fit 35s on a Tacoma. I think that whole 35 inch tire thing is for jeeps and full size trucks. You definitely don't need them to go off-roading. Folks have a hard enough time getting 285s to fit without rubbing. Even that takes a cab mount chop most of the time and some fender trimming and different wheels or wheel spacers to clear the UCAs. for 35s you're heading into drop bracket territory, which is expensive, requires cutting the front crossmember, and is not ideal for offroading (that last point is debatable). I have OME 885s and a 2" AAL with 265/75r16 tires and I think it looks beefy enough and it doesn't come with all the rubbing.

I neglected to mention that I don't have any idea what's needed if you go with a DB lift. All I know about that, is that I don't want to know anything about that.

And this means you have to limit the uptravel or otherwise major body work is needed. 4" drop bracket lift is the easiest solution, use the spindles and crossmembers, choose some coilovers to match the wanted lift.

Even at 6" lift I still rub with 35s. Offset, backspacing, alignment yadda yadda. You're gonna rub no matter what so pick a lift (I suggest going with 3" or you can always buy my lift once I sell it next month if you want a good price on a 6") ;)

Brute force Fab. Both bumpers and sliders. Billy is awesome to deal with. Those bars have been up against trees a few times.
