So after digging, this actually all originated because of the skid plate.

I pulled it off and looked at each hole. There are some quality control issues for sure. The rear two holes are large enough to accommodate the bolts. The front two however (on mine) were too small and two different sizes and shapes.
The front passenger side (the side with the stripped screw) was oval and WAY too small. With the skid on, there is no tolerance to align this hole and the threads. Any offset and no wonder it stripped the screw, even properly aligned; the narrow sides of the oval grab the threads as you screw it on.
    Small washer for scale.
    Front passenger (small and oval):

    Front driver (small and round):

Rear two holes (larger correct size):

The driver side was round but also left no tolerance. Hit each with some wd-40 and drilled each hole to just over 7/16”. They were just under 3/8” before.
Wiped the metal shavings and degreased. Ready to reinstall.

    Newly resized front passenger:

Gonna Chase the threads with a Hardened M8x1.25 then replace with this m8x1.25x25 body bolt that lowes sells for about a buck.

And yes. Once I find an extra $400 laying around.

Toyota tech did this to mine also. But now I have an RCI, and the place where the screwed up bolt went into was taken off anyway.

Those bolts require that the skid plate be perfectly lined up before you can thread them in. Dealer probably just put them in and impact wrenched them down. Hopefully they didn't also over tighten the oil filter canister. Stuff like this is why I NEVER go to the dealer for any maintenance and do it myself. They can keep their "free" oil changes.

Dealership stripped mine. They then somehow wedged something between the skid and the frame to keep it from rattling. A couple hundred miles later I found myself on some country and trail roads in central Kentucky and that shim came out. The skid and washer rattled with every bump and it was awful. Put a socket on it and couldn't get it to budge so they must've used an impact while cross-threading it.

They played dumb when I brought it up at my next maintenance. Looks like there's a new bolt in there. Probably just aligned and drove it home with an impact again....

Went to change my oil yesterday. Dealership did the same thing!!! Why is it so hard to start bolts by hand!
