bump. it's the weekend--maybe more exposure/reads. Hopefully, this'll save someone some pain if they have to order a Taco with the "skid plate enhancement" in the Gulf States region.

Het Tacomaatw, Are those photos of your truck after they added the aluminum looking skid plate?

Tacomaatw, I just bought a 2010 Tacoma and it just has the black metal guard under where the skid plate used to cover in my 2008. Should I have gotten the aluminum extension like is shown in your photos? Thanks to you , I called Toytota and complained and they are giving me a $250 voucher for a real skid plate. I like the way your photos look with the aluminum half skid plate.

    tenny,

I don't like the shiny aluminum "decoration" currently on the front of my Tacoma. I'd rather have the full aluminum (albeit thin) skid plate featured in the Tacoma brochures that I referred to on a previous page in this thread. I'm planning on taking the current "skid plate enhancement" off after I get the full front aluminum plate.

I understand. My last 2 Tacomas 2006 and 2008 had the full skid plate. You think they will have to take off the black metal plate to install the full plate? Also, have you heard any talk of the performance chips claiming up to 50 HP increase, better MPG etc. Like performance chips.com. Tenny

I am pretty sure the full sized aluminum one covers the black metal plate. Unsure on performance chips. The only think I've heard was to stay away from Jet Chips.

You install the aluminum skid plate on top of the black steel one (according to the instructions). I took off my back one when I installed my aluminum one though. I really don't think those performance chips do what they claim, but I haven't tried any.
