Skid Plate Recommendations

Keep running over sticks, squirrels, possums ect. Looking at upgrading the skid plate on my 16' Taco for peace of mind that I don't put a hole in my oil pan.

Have been comparing RCI and CBI skids. Price makes me want to get RCI but the CBI looks a little bigger? Maybe that's why its more expensive?

Looking for recommendations on what you have got and liked. Best price around for quality aluminum skid.

Very interesting. I wonder how much difference the weight really is. I think your right I might as well get steel if thats the only added weight up front.

 

I went with aluminum not so much for weight but more for maintenance. I left them bare and never need to repaint and they don’t rust.

 

I have the bullet proof fabricaton skid. It looks clean and works great.

Is that a quick access cover for the oil change? Seems like if I were OP, I would consider that. If/when you do oil changes, taking off the skid plate isn't fun. So a quick access removable plate is nice.

 

That was my other deciding factor, if I got bare steel and then rattle can'd it with some sort of rust preventative white would the maintenance be the same if I got aluminum.

LOL, just remember to pull the access panel off before taking it to the dealership. I forgot to do it once and they overtorqued it so bad I had to drill the bolts out.

 

I have the Mobtown skid. Very solid.

 

No, no where near the same. Even a powder coated steel skid will eventually rust, you’ll never have that with aluminum.

Pulling off the skid plate is a concern when doing oil change? Are you shitting me?

 

Dude they are heavy AF. I needed a buddy to help me install my rci. The mobtown and bamf are even heavier.
