i agree that is a sweet looking setup.

The only reason i have decided against that one myself is it hangs down too low. Even lifted 3" my front bumper (stock) meets the ground too much already.

But it is a very pretty plate and i have thought about getting it and modding it to sit higher once i build my bumper.

    Yeah I understand that.

It would look sweet on my truck since I don't do any hard core off roading. I would probably cry if I scratched it though. It's too nice to take off road.

Exhaust wrap on the crossover eliminates the vibe on BudBuilts.

The TRD skid plate will not keep its look if you spend time offroading. It will deform with the slightest impact. I used to drive carefully on the forest service roads gathering firewood, etc. but my skid plate paid the price. Even with the stock skid plate and the TRD skid plate, protection is minimal.

Skid plate and sliders were the best purchase I ever made for my truck. The tough ones will have some effect on your front suspension depending on which skids you purchase.

Any one of the brands mentioned above would provide 1000x more protection than stock. If you figure the small cost difference between the TRD skid and a real skid, it's a no-brainer.

    for sure,

the skid plate pictured is made by a member on here i believe not the OEM turd plate made of Aluminum.. It has a reputation of being pretty stout

    Some stuff...
That looks great and what I'm leaning towards. One question - if I eventually swap out the stock bumper for something more rugged, will Matt123's skid plate still be sufficient and/or compatible with an aftermarket bumper? Or should I just hold off on the skid plate till I upgrade the bumper?

I'm looking at the ArmorTech Offroad:

    Thanks! :)

Mine actually didn't. It reduced the vibration, and the range of RPM's that it was noticeable for, but it is still fairly loud from about 1100-1500 RPM.

May be a dumb question. But how are you all putting the shackles into the skid. I looked at mine and can't see where they would mount.

I had to also put some lockwashers on the mid-skid, the bolts had come loose and that was vibrating pretty bad. Between the two fixes I get no noise at all now.

I went with OEM for light off road use. I'm not rock crawling with this thing. My main concern was protecting the radiator from sticks and ice chunks, etc.

Is the factory TRD skid plate the same that comes factory on a PreRunner?

I've been considering upgrading skid as well. I do some Forest service roads, Fire Trails, and Dirt roads under utility lines during hunting season quite often... Debating Matt's vs the Bud Built...

Can anyone comment on the weight of one of Matts 10ga plates? I want some reliable protection but I don't really want to kill the lift on my truck or my gas mileage if I don't have too lol.

I will prolly get the Bud Built 1/8" Mid Pan... Is it decently strong?

Found the answers to my own questions.... Looking into doing a custom set of pans with a friend of mine to save some cash.

Ya this thing is a beauty. Especially if you're trying to keep the OEM look... I like!
