I'll be doing both most likely. And I'll make them work with and without a front diff drop spacer commonly installed w/ 3" lifts, as well as clearing the factory exhaust crossover.

Cali is known to be retarded when it comes to modifying the exhaust.

Also I got my skid painted and mounted. I have their "light duty" and its stil a PIA to put on.

The UDR site says this abut DT Y pipes:

Test Pips are not to be used on a public road in the state of California - not CARB approved

Also, where are they available for $300 shipped? I can only find $489.

I don't care for the design of the URD pipe anyway. I say find a good fabricator in your area and go custom for best results:

    FFS.

Yeah, I had to look around a LOT too. 5 shops before I finally found one that wanted to talk to me about what I wanted to do and why, what I was planning to do with the truck, and gave me feedback on what he thought would be best based on his 30 years of automotive repair and fabrication experience.

It's the only shop I give money to in this town any more. They did a kickass job, and it wasn't inexpensive, but it is worth what I paid. Top notch job all around.

Next time you're down this way, come down a day early and I'll set you up with my guy ;)

Not really anything. I did myself also and when I say MYself I mean the only help I had was a socket and ratchet. I did it in the parking garage (flat floor). The skid is just a heavy biotch!

Oh and here is the surprise: I found my front diff is leaking on the passenger side. Gonna see if its under warranty (I only have the power train left). Its a new leak (no dirt caked into the fluid) So it probably started yesterday (It was sitting for 2 weeks before yesterday).

How do the fuel tank skids work? In the first post it looks like it just bolts to the straps and would just distribute a point load out across the tank. Is that good enough?

I'm not trying to stir $hit up, I'm being serious. I've got a DCLB with crappy break-over angles and I'd like to go out and try some gnarlier terrain but I can't afford to break the truck because it also needs to get me to work on monday. I also run on the street most of the time and need the truck to carry cargo and tow trailers so I don't want to weigh it down with half a ton of depleted uranium armor plating.

I want to try to fab up some skids but I want to get the protection and piece of mind I need without adding a ton of weight and loosing even more mpg's or more important excess load capacity.

More or less. More importantly, it's about all you're going to get. The design of the truck really doesn't allow for a gas tank skid that mounts to any other locations.

I'd worry a lot more about sliders and an IFS skid than the gas tank. The gas tank is positioned in a fashion relative to the wheels that you almost have to try to drag it on something.

Oh yeah, front skid and sliders are definitely on the to do list. That stock front skid is a joke.

Running Bud-Builts now, gotta say the hard solid! Can't go wrong with either them or ATO (especially after reading jandrews story, can't beat that)

Need to figure out some way of a high clearance exhaust pipe, can always use thw extra clearance! Cheapest in town...was $400
