Stock with a camper shell for now.
After this week and crushing the bracket that is at a 45 degree angle that supports the crossbar member and denting the frame where it ties into the crossbar member behind the passenger seat I have decided I need not only a lift and larger tires but skids.

so I’m on here to ask what is the best set of skid plates that would remove those brackets in replace of a skid plate and protect that crossbar member?

Pictures, if you think anything relevant/permanent was damaged so we can help evaluate.

But I use RCI steel engine/transmission, and aluminum catalytic converter guards that bolt to the transmission plate. About $800 for the set, but the engine skid has taken some serious gouges that indicate the steel did the job as designed.

Sounds like you need steel plates, not aluminum. Also search for a used set of Mobtown plates - several takeoffs show up from time to time. I’m not selling mine though, they prevent exactly what you are talking about. Being that they are steel lets me slide, albeit with scraping noises, over high rocks in the trail.

BAMF also sells good ones in the Bay Area and also has a Pelfrey DIY kit on sale if you know a good welder.

As we don’t know what type of trails you do or how you are driving them take this as just a suggestion- picking a line and driving slower can give one lots of safe leeway over obstacles. So lifting your truck or getting larger tires may be an option but isn’t the cure all. I use just 265/75’s and have a 1.5” lift only and often drive on old mine roads in the desert without a problem. I definitely needed the plates though as I often scrape over rocks where I drive. My OEM pie tin was definitely not enough!

one other thing, get a reroute on your exhaust before you get plates- don’t buy the ones for non-rerouted systems.
