I was there a long time ago, but never skied. Is it any good? I heard they don't really get much snow.

it’s ok. i think. the runs are kinda short but their is like 7 or 8 (i think). and yes and no. some times they do for a few weeks and some times they don’t. they don’t get much powder. they are not even open yet. :( (should be a week or maybe 2 and they will be) they do make snow and it’s all groomed. they do have a park and mogul ridge is one run.

here is the link to their site for any one that wants it. http://www.obergatlinburg.com/season/winter also if anyone is going. if you want let me know and i’ll see if i can come. (that is if you don’t mind hitting the slope with a boarder)

Yeah I was there a long time ago in late Feb I think, there was no snow up there so I never thought much of it. I know it's only a few hrs from where I am now. I've always skied in PA and WV and our runs are short, cold and icy. They usually don't open till late Dec as well. Christmas can be iffy there too. That's why I'm pumped to ski Utah!

I don't mind skiing with a boarder, I had a friend that use to go with me a lot in hs. I almost switched to the board, but after being around her and strapping on your board after every lift, I decided it's not worth it.

...try to make it to alta (or one of the other three) at least one of those days... the four resorts in big and little cottonwood canyons almost always get more snow than the ones around park city, more favorable to lake enhancement and upslope..

Well my wife is a beginner so I've heard to avoid Snowbird and Canyons. I will be staying in Kimball Junction so I will be close to teh PC resorts. Snowbasin doesn't look too far away and I would like to avoid crowds. Coming from PA where it's a small mtn packed, Im not sure what to expect out there. That's why I was thinking on DV or Snowbasin.

If I just buy day tiks for us, where do you recommend? At the gate or is there somewhere else?

i used to get discounted tickets through either the hotel, ..or from local sports stores like "sports authority", etc.. if i remember correctly, this technique was more pervasive for the little and big cottonwood canyons resorts (alta, snowbird, brighton, solitude), ..i'd call the hotel and see if they offer discounted tickets to the resorts around park city (..not sure about snowbasin, ..never been there..)

sammy, yes, sorry if forgot you had a beginner w/ you... in that case brighton and snowbird would not be good for her... alta and solitude might be ok, ...but PCMR and Deer valley probably best.. :)

Hey I got a gear questions for you guys, I think I know the answer but I figured I might as well ask.

I have an older set of skis that are 158mm, I was thinking on giving them to my wife for now. Shes a beginner and only 5',1/2" tall. They're probaly too big for her, or do you think she would be ok on them?

I hope it starts snowing. It's pretty thin right now and the forecast for the next week doesn't look good. major wind storm last night screwed anything exposed in the backcountry and the resorts are just bulletproof man made

Not concerned, anything will be better than skiing in SW PA. We're not there to ski the whole time either, it's also a busniness trip, my wife and I are looking at some property to open some businesses in the area.

On the week of Jan 9th til the 12th I'll be in Denver (Lakewood) for training. Which means that my employer gets to pay for me to go to "Mary Jane" @ Winter Park for the 13th-14th! :D

In any way, putting the word out there...

I passed got 85% on the written part missing most of the administration questions, practical went extremely well. for my patient examination I got 100% and the scenarios went almost as well as that. Unfortunatly due to lack of snow we are delaying our opening till next week though.
