I am one considering 235/85/16. Floating is something I would rather not do in general. Plus I like the tall and skinny look.

But it seems tight without a lift.

Anyone know what kind of hit would that get on fuel economy? Taller/ heavyer (it's all load E) at vs stock...

my car has wider tires than that lol

I'm just concerned finding any sort of 255 etc in an all terrain will be tough.
All the 255 85 16 seem to be mud terrains.

I'm getting around 16.5/18.5 with the 265/75/16 (KO2's) same diameter as those. With the weight savings, you might get 17/18.5. I think the fuel drop is mostly due to the effect it has on the gear ratio, though I'm sure the weight plays a part as well. Before I went to the 265/75/16, I had the 265/70/16. I got 18/20.5 town/hwy.

To answer your original question, I think people prefer the skinny tires for the stance. It's different, athletic looking (like the taco itself!) And as far as functionality, I hear they're better in ice. And of course less rub. I don't think mpg is anyone's goal with them unless it's just a small passenger tire that happens to be skinny.

As far as your main focus, that brings me to my next question. What are your goals op? Is this a daily driver or frequent trail rig? Which factors concern you the most? MPG, road noise, tread life, road manners, off road capability, looks? Tires are critical and should fit your exact needs!

Edit: power as well. 2 different tires can produce totally different WHP.
