No money, all went to truck...
I had a 1989 corolla. I used to drop the hood closed. Then I noticed dropping it caused buckles in the hood every time I dropped it. Yes, the hood was way flimsier then Tacomas today but since then I always push close my hood.

Drop it from a few inches. If for some reason it doesn’t catch, then I push it down. As long as you use common sense force, Its not going to dent or break .

I bought a Toyota so I wouldn't have to deal with these type of issues.

    Oh look, another mod....
I use to do this, then I modded the hood and installed a power opening/closing hood. You know us Tacoma guys have to mod every damn thing on the truck. Next week I'm going to install AI software on it!

Not quite a necro bump, but relevant to my question- Anyone’s truck give you little chirps when you drop the hood closed? I have a 2023 Tacoma that hits me with 7 soft horn chirps almost every time I close the hood.

No chirps in 9 years of dropping the hood. Is your truck running or completely shut off?

Completely shut-off. After doing some more digging, it’s seeming like the horn beeps may be related to the aftermarket Rockledge Securities alarm “upgrade” and dropping the hood triggers the shock sensor that I believe is installed. I’m trying to find the shock sensor since per the manual, there’s a little adjustment dial that allows you to lower the sensitivity. Want to test that and see if that ends the chirps.

I believe I get several chirps closing the door with the engine running and my Fob outside the truck.

In troubleshooting you might see if your hood chirps and door chirps are coming from different speaker/siren sources or the same sound source. This might help determine if it is a factory or aftermarket chirp. Good luck tracking it down.

RockLobster always has some great replies!

I have hood struts so I push mine down.

Prior to hood struts, I dropped it (like it's hot!) from about 5".

Found the shock sensor by following the wire off of the LED/button module to a bit further up under the dash. Little adjustable dial was red. Turned it down a couple clicks and no more beeps when dropping the hood.

    Done and done.

I prefer the jingle from the washing machine personally.
