So I was driving down the highway and ended hitting something in the road. When I got to my destination I looked to see if their was any damage and sure enough I have a big slash that spans to 8 or 9 knobs on the tire. Its about quarter of an inch deep (maybe a little deeper in certain areas) and some of the knobs in the tire can move freely now. I've had tire punctures but never a slash across a tire like this. Should I replace the tire or will it be fine? Thanks guys

Across the tread…meh… it’s probably not even cut down to the depth of the wear bar. Especially with those thick ass MT geolanders. I’d think it would be fine. I’d be worried if it cut below the tread but that’s not the case as it seems. Also nice Super Troopers reference!

Looks like it will be fine... In time, you may lose some of the smaller chunks of rubber that are 'less attached'. - not a big deal.

It is an odd gash - What did you hit?

Monitor but probably OK, all the damage appears to be confined to the lugs and not the body of the tire. Putting it on the rear axle may reduce wear.

    Also curious what you hit.

I honestly couldn't tell you. I was traveling in a different state for work it was right under a overpass and I was behind a car didn't have time to react. If I had to guess I'm wondering if it could have been some type of high strength 90 long metal bracket. That's the only thing that I can see cutting it like that.

No idea how big the object was, but could've easily full bottomed out and had the tire catch the pinch weld if its not pounded, or the inner fender if those are 35s.
