I noticed a shimmy at around 60 MPH all of the sudden the other day, just a week after I had my tires rotated and balanced during an oil change. Today, I notice this. I'm not sure if I was slashed, and if so for what reason (i'm a friendly driver!). I'm hoping it's a defect and Toyo will warranty them.

any thoughts? It just doesn't look uniform enough to me to have been sliced purposely.

Yikes, I'm not a tire guy but I would'nt think thats a defect. Don't think the tires are made like that to split there. IMO.

Hmmm.....it's still holding air. I am thinking deffect, but it's hard to tell without examining the actual separation.

well i work at my local discount tire and ive seen things like close to this it could be a impact break this occurs when the tire experiences a severe impact with anther obeject like a curb or pothole or it could be torque cracking caused by torque deflection in the shoulder plies as the tire rotates underinflation and or overloading are possilbe causes thos are the closest to that i know of bro that look like your tire but its hard to tell

They are Toyo Open Country A/T, they're not more than 6 months old and I bought them directly from a local custom truck shop down here in TX. I'm definitely not driving on it, I just noticed it today and have since put my spare on.

How new or old are they?
Bring em back to where you bought em. They might do something for you.
Did you get a tire warranty?

Will do, I've already contacted them. They said that they'll try to get Toyo to prorate them, either way they're ordering me one. Bummer.

    Thanks for your help!

it's hard to tell if it's not in person, but from what i've found when it looks even close to that it's ALWAYS a slash. lots of times there's a failed slash on a tire next to a full one so maybe it was just a failed attempt.
