Audio engineer is my favorite job I never had... I don't know the first thing about professionally mixing, but I like to think I could be hell on wheels under the supervision of someone who actually knew what they were doing :anonymous:. I did my fair share of pushing buttons and turning knobs on every add-on available in pretty basic entry-level paid DAW's, but I didn't really have the community around to help build that passion of recording/mixing, so never really went far with it. That being said, I have the deepest respect for music that can scratch an itch without having to be overproduced (or maybe even sometimes, not produced well at all). I like having the "audio engineer" perspective when listening to music, but sometimes it can really kill the experience. For what may sound incredible to others, I can sometimes pinpoint stuff that could've been done better, or differently, or whatever, and it ruin the experience. On the opposite hand, I can listen intently enough to notice little stuff others probably don't. The first example that comes to mind is in Nazareth, the "Lets load the gun" and the "they won't be missing you" portion of the song:
    - "Lets load the gun" is very front and center, no pan, reverb is gone (in comparison to earlier in the song), highly compressed, a little distortion - its super direct in your face. It gives the listener the feeling that the character has made his decision (to load the gun), its final, he's ready to act, he's no longer questioning the decision.
-"They won't be missing you" is super distant, it has a moving pan (can't remember if its right to left/left to right), feels like the voices are circling the character, big reverb on them, kinda disorienting - supporting that they've won the battle of convincing the character to load the gun.

Thats only 1 example, but I'm glad others are out there to share these little nuggets with. I definitely feel like I can over-analyze music, and I don't think I've truly ever came out of those analyzations happy with most bands. I can still enjoy them, just find things to hyperfixate on/ruin the rest of the song sometimes. I don't really find that here. Its more like the more I analyze, the more I find that I like. Guess thats why I'm joing the cult :anonymous:
