It goes by distance. Key has to be near the door handle for it to unlock. I sleep in a bed tent with the tonneau folded up behind cab like a shelf. With the key laying on the shelf, the door won't even unlock.

    ...stuff
You’re gonna need a tundra or a semi truck to pull that trailer.

op, can you just lock the doors then throw the keys out of the window to prevent people from unlocking it? Sounds like a foolproof plan to me

hey @stacksmasher have you tried this yet?

I found this thread while searching for threads about cab sleeping setups, I'm looking at ripping out the passenger seat to get there for mine. :sawzall:

BUT I wanted to give you a heads up about the push to start stuff. If you use the push to start and the truck is running and in park, after "a predetermined time" (quote from Toyota, this is not disclosed how long it is though) the truck will automagically shut it down. I was using the truck for A/C while I slept when I did a road trip through texas and the south, found out the hard way. Ended up leaving the truck in neutral against a parking block/curb on a hill and pulling the e brake so it wouldn't shut down on me at night. This is for the 2020s, not sure if the 19s had it, and I don't think the key ignitions have it ether (SR/SR5/manuals). I'll be looking at some sort of AC setup for sleeping in the cab if I do a lot more of it, rather than running the engine.
