Our boards do have some sag if you're putting two people one a single board (about an inch or so with 300lbs on a single board) but it's still well within the elastic range of the material.
When you have two people laying on a 4" mattress there's almost no sag.
If you're really concerned about sag for some reason you could grab a 2x10" from home depot and cut it to fit as a center support.

I guarantee the strength of the boards so people don't have to worry about breaking anything.
If you break it - you get a new one on me, including shipping.

Did you go to the same DMV location both times and what was the reason they denied your request?

I know another guy on here who has a cab high and was able to change the body type to PM. However, he was denied at the first location he tried, but he was successful at a different location.

Due to the weight of 3/4” plywood, I made a full-sized platform (not BamBed) for my short bed using 1/2” Baltic Birch. I supported it with a couple of rectangular metal tubes that were available to me; a 1” x 1.5” steel tube and a 1” x 2” x 1/8” aluminum tube.

Using metal cross members should be more than sufficient to support most loads. However, to ensure there wasn’t any flexing, I cut two pieces of 4x4 to fit under the platform. It was always easy to find a couple of small spaces between the camping gear, if additional support was needed for the platform. Whether driving or parked, the weight of gear/people on top of the platform kept the 4x4’s from moving.

    Great ideas here...
So far, we have tended to use a ground tent when camping. But I've considered sleeping in the bed for some solo trips. The platform would work well to allow for storage. Thinking out loud, maybe 1/2 a platform might do the trick while traveling solo with the rear seat area providing additional interior storage space...

It’s been several years but one try was at an actual DMV and the other was a AAA DMV. They said it didn’t qualify as “liveable” and that it wasn’t permanently mounted.

Yes, it works well for my purposes. Very easy to remove and allows adequate storage under the platform with the dog bed on top. I have some ideas to try for a lighter weight version of the box for under the platform.

I slept in the bed of my 02 Tacoma with the 6' bed and my 06 Tacoma 5' bed for something like 15+ years. Just threw in a pad. Then I got old! Too hard to get up and pee in the middle of the night.
With the 5' bed I left the shell window open and draped a tarp over the open end. Froze my butt off a couple of times. Bought a Winnebago Minnie Winnie to camp in and now I pee in style at night!
