Also speaking of measurements, anyone have an approximate clearance measurement from platform top to the roof of a cab-high camper shell?

...a little late here, but I just finished a sleeping platform for my truck. I used 3/4" cabinet plywood ($31/sheet at Depot), and no supports were needed. It doesn't sag at all- the cabinet plywood is much stiffer.

Used 2x6s and notched the bottoms to fit flush. The front one sits forward against the slot and the rear sits aft. It stays put.

I'm the OP on this thread and am finally getting around to making my sleep platform. Can someone post the side to side length they used for the boards? To get a really nice fit might take me a little trial and error.
    Thanks.

Yep, but I'd like to avoid that if possible and benefit from other folks' experience.

Mine are 57 1/4" measured on the long side of the board.

Don't get too caught up with making a really snug fit since the bed moves a bit with temperature. Like the guy above said, start long and trim a bit until they just drop in.

Mine are exactle 57", front and rear fit slightly differently - one is just right, other is slightly tight, but not enough to worry with.

I used 5/4 deck board, pine, which also happens to be pressure-treated and generally knot-free; lies flush with top of notch, uses wheel-wells for added support. Avoid boards with twist, probably also avoid cup; a little warp is OK, just lay in with arch up; crown won't make much difference.

OK, I got her done. I used two 2x4's in each slot and they fit quite well, and a 3/4" piece of plywood (4'x6'). I'm going to attempt to insert or attach a photo a photo.

Forgot to mention - 57.25" was too long for me. 57" or 57 1/8" is as long as I would go.

here you go, also my first attempt at uploading a picture... so...

I will eventually make a thread that shows the pictures along the way, but this should get you started. It is 3/4" cabinet plywood, which is much stiffer than regular. It is built in three drop-in sections, with the rearmost section being a few inches wider and notched to accommodate the shape at the end of the bed.

I am only 150 lbs, but it doesn't flex more than a quarter inch or so. I can always add cross-members in the notches, but there is no need to at this point.
