I’m saying you could have it look like a long contractor cap. Seems that could be pretty stealthy. Doesn’t have to look like a camper. I just think altering your truck by removing your rear window and relying on that boot thing to stay leak proof should be avoided if possible. If it is ultimately unavoidable and/ or you just really want to go that route, great, I’d love to see what you come up with.

Also there’s plenty of tundras with a 77” bed, but I can understand not wanting to get rid of the Tacoma. But if this goal is truly a priority it might be worth a serious consideration.

Im 5’8” and sleep fine diagonally in a short bed. So I’m 8” taller than the length of the bed. This guy is only 6” taller than the length of a long bed. It works. It’s not the best solution but it works.

Yes, you are crazy. But I’m interested to see what you come up with. Do you plan on taking out the rear window?

Did you take out the rear window?

Edit: I see you edited to clarify there haha. Okay great - any advise on the build you can share?

I don’t know all the uses you have for your truck, I’ve spent many many nights sleeping in the back of mine, but need to be able to take the cap off regularly too. If you ever ever ever need to take this thing off, suddenly you have no back window..
This is obvious I know but still...

People worry the gasket will wear through the paint on the cab... didnt happen. Installed drape to keep heat up front but found it still warmed the back beautifully, too

When I was a kid, my dad took out the rear truck window and sewed up some Naugahyde that snapped in the cab and the truck bed and camper. I crawled through that opening dozens of times. It worked well.

Here is a (bad) picture of what I’m talking about.6B600F64-0FAA-4732-BB08-3C307375990D.jpg

I don't even know what that means. Do you install cloaking on the truck when you are sleeping? So the truck is stealth?

Or is it just a term meaning you want to park/sleep somewhere and have no one pay particular notice? Like for stalking, PI photo shoots, paparazzi stuff, Walmart camping, etc. ?

I mean to me stealth camping is dug in, full foliage shelter, no fire or lights. Tough in a truck. :D

You know. Slip through the opening and into the driver seat...... gone. I loved it. Little secret here..... but if I’m lucky enough to get a new frame..... I’m cutting the whole f’n back wall out of the truck....396E4B1A-1D03-42AB-BD79-303BC3B2742D.jpg

The rest of the issues brought up here have a work around, I think this is the nail in the coffin. Even if you sleep with your feet through the window the roof is gonna be like 2 inches from your nose.

Nothing to see but a full bed rug and two sets of rear windows- I just haven’t gotten around to it with this truck....after 10 years. I’m making bigger plans...

About 20yrs ago my buddy and I used one of those gaskets on his ranger to put eight twelve inch subwoofers in the bed of his truck and it worked great. You need to make sure your toppers window (if it has one) is not bigger than your trucks rear window. His toppers window was smaller and we had to do some trimming to get the gasket to fit squarely. It was a fun project and only cost me my hearing in one ear. :headbang:
