No threads. So to raise it I’m thinking I’ll get some 2x4s or something and drill out a hole big enough to sit the feet into.

Just use a paddle bit about the same size and press it it. You'll be set.

    Here’s mine:

Bolted through the bed, I tried some less secure setups that didn’t hold up off road. Next iteration will have a slide on the left to mount a bike under the shell, I love this guy’s setup (from the gfc thread):

I was in a similar situation but skipped a bike carrying slide or using a fork-mount. I rotated the handlebars inline to the frame then leaned them inside. This let me carry two MTB's in an 18" slot. I had tie-downs around the frames to the bedrail that kept the bikes from moving, and foam mats between the frames. Also helps (a lot) to remove the pedals. Overall, a Huge space saver over typical bike mounts.

How's it coming? Got mine finished except for some cleaning of the carpet.

The sides swing up for storage and the plywood beneath slides out as well for storage

If you plan on sleeping above the wheel wells I’d reccomend a slightly lifted topper.
Had a nice reg height topper but exchanged it when I found a matching lifted topper with windows 360 degrees. The reg height toppers are too small in my opinion. Could hardly fit anything when I had mine. Some people don’t like the look with a lifted topper but I don’t mind actually think it gives it a nice look with a slight lift

    Nice!

Definitely reccomend it. You’d be surprised how much more you can load!! Also they’re high enough to fit a dirt bike

This thread seems closest to what I am doing: re-making my truck bed storage boxes for my survey gear. Here are two photos, the first showing my 2004 DC TRD loaded up with survey gear, and the second showing just the two storage boxes in the bed before the truck went to the dealer a few weeks ago for a new frame.

Question: what is the height from truck bed bottom to top of wheel wells? These two posts state 9.5", but are those 2nd/3rd gen wheel well height dimensions the same for our 1st gen trucks?

For guys with camper shells (especially lifted ones like mine) I installed these tie down hooks the other day; it really opens up a lot of options.

For price and functionality it combats any Yakima or Thule setup for sure

I was definitely the crazy guy at Costco yesterday

Thinking about doing a surf rack on one of the sides as well

I picked up a high top raven camper shell today for $200. Need to sell my regular height colored matched shell now to get this one painted. Pretty excited to get my sleeping platform setup finally!
