Well I figured it was time to give Big Red it's official build thread on the greatest forum on Earth :D

Best way to start is with a back story. When my wife and I were still dating my soon to be father in law had a kick for classic trucks. He had a 55 Ford that he still has and had a little bit more beat up 50 Chevy. It sat in the drive way for about a year before I asked what was wrong. He told me that he had the engine rebuilt but it would stay running for him and left him stranded more than once. He said I was more than welcome to tinker on it and get it running. Well I spent the next few days looking at it but being 20 at the time didn't know a whole lot. I managed to get a spark and got it to turn over for a second... Woot progress! Well the next Sunday my father in law had this envelope with him at church and I assumed it was for the church. Well we went to PF Changs for lunch and he still had the envelope. He brings up the 50 Chevy and says that he was really impressed with what I got done and hands me the envelope. Inside is a bill of sale and the title for the Chevy! He was giving me the truck as a gift! My wife had no idea and mind you this was when we were a year into dating and we wouldn't get married for another four years. Well I take the truck home and my brother in law (sister's husband) helps me adjust the timing and it fired right up! Now for the next couple years I drove that thing every where. I even delivered pizzas in it. Well I started to get the mod bug and decided I wanted to supe up the Chevy and make it a hot rod. I take it to this want to be mechanic who ends up taking $10k of my money and leaving me with a shell of what my truck used to be. With too much work to restore the truck I was sick to my stomach but I had just moved into a new house and my wife and I didn't have the money to fix it. I felt like inlet my father in law down for having someone mutilate the truck :( well he told me it was just a truck and he had done it to plenty of vehicles and said just sell it and buy something else.

So now fast forward to about 5 months ago. I was scowering Craigslist for the right truck and I had always wanted a 1967 C10 because of the front end and it was the first year the second gen C10s came out. I end up finding one local to me and went to check it out. The truck had a some work done to it but still needed some love. Still, it was exactly where I wanted it to be to start a project:D So, I talked to the owner about the price, signed the papers, and Big Red belonged to me! I have a lot of plans for Big Red and I want it to be the truck my 50 should have been from the beginning.

It's has a 4.1L Chevy 250 I6 with a three on the tree transmission. The truck itself is a LWB and was started life as a basic work truck. Which means, no passenger mirror or sun visor. I am slowing turning it into a sweet truck and will update with everything I've done.

    tldr;

Father in law gave me a 50 Chevy
Guy screwed me on a restore
    Bought a 67 lwb C10 with FIL's blessings
    Build thread to show progress

    Now for the goodies :D

The Day I brought Big Red home!

Some of the first things I did was add a Mexican blanket and replace the crappy 10'' steering wheel for a Red flake Moon Eyes one

    IMG_2700.jpg

The front windshield was cracked but luckily the previous owner gave me one that was perfect so I started the process of replacing it. I have to say kudos to the people that do that for a living because it took me a couple weeks to figure it out. Ended up getting a couple buddies to help me out and replace it.

Got tired of the super red interior that was going on so I ripped out the carpet which still needs to be replaced and took out the red bench seat for some seats that were going in Old Blue. They are from a 2002 Chevy Truck that I had reupholstered. Was able to find a pretty close jumper seat too to make it a clean look.

I didnt have a tach so I went to Autozone and bought a cheapy one while also replacing the burned out bulbs in the dash for some LEDs. I fixed the oil pressure gauge but I didnt take any pictures of that.

Now I've been working on two separate big project to keep the build moving.

I bought a motor off craigslist that was supposedly a rebuilt 250 with a cam but turned out to be junk but the parts on it were sorta ok so I am slowly taking them off that motor and getting them on mine. It has a Clifford Performance valve cover and side covers and a set of clifford headers that need some TLC. Also has an Offy intake with dual Rochester B carbs. The carbs need a lot of work but patience is a virtue.

    IMG_0161.jpg IMG_0162.jpg IMG_0169.jpg

The other big project is taking the old dash out and replacing it with a digital dash from Intellitronix. It took me a little bit of ingenuity to make it work but it should be a plug and play unit now with the stock harness! I am just waiting on my senders to get here from Intellitronix since they couldnt find my order at first but were able to find it and ship it.

I took a pair of weather pack (80's GM connectors) and wire everything up the way it should. I ended up trading an old transmission I had from Old Blue for the dash panel but overall I think It'll look great.

Continuing on with the motor upgrades and the wiring. I decided to rewrap my engine wires and and clean up the engine bay a little. One thing I forgot to mention is that I did an HEI swap on the motor so it fires up much easier and drives better too. No more points to worry about!

    IMG_0090.jpg IMG_0365.jpg IMG_0366.jpg IMG_0367.jpg

Finally some little odds and end things I did like putting on a rubber pad for the gas pedal and switching the ignition in case the previous owner had a spare copy. I also have plans to convert the three on the tree to a 4 speed floor shifter. Have a buddy redoing an old 66 Nova so he had an old Saginaw 4 speed that he gave me for free fiddy :D Swapped the bell housing from the crappy motors trans so now that's going to sit until I'm ready to get the drive shaft shortened.

    IMG_2785.jpg IMG_2784.jpg IMG_0330.jpg IMG_0369.jpg

And of course what classic car isnt complete without a set of plates from the year it was made :D

Got the intellitronix gauges wired up. Just need to finish putting in the speedo sensor and then fix the carbs and I'll take it for a spin. Going to try and get an exhaust put on Big Red this week too.

Love having the week off for my birthday :D got a lot done today. Rebuilt the Rochester carbs, polished the dirty offenhauser intake, wrapped the headers because painting would be way to much effort, put on the Clifford valve cover, and finished wiring the intellitronix gauge. Tomorrow I am going to put the headers and intake on, polish the valve cover and try to tackle the brake booster. I'm running out of things to do

Yeah, a four on the floor would be great! Ive never driven a column shift manual, but i have a feeling one on the floor would go perfectly with the truck. Just time to cut a hole in the floor and shorten the driveshaft:sawzall:
