So the more I drive this thing the more I think I need the restrictors. The oil feeds are covered in oil and my wife and I saw the oil gloop(?) out of the exhaust.

Ive also rerouted the catch can from the intake manifold to the intake and gutted the pcv per the talk I’ve had with @SlowGen1 . Truck idles way smoother and during startup the truck doesn’t rev no where near as high as it did before. I plan to install a full race block off plate and use it as a boost reference later when I install my boost/wideband gauge

    [IMG][IMG]

Here’s a video of the truck before I gutted the pcv and how the exhaust would spit out like before

    https://youtu.be/SUuH0XD3-xg

    https://youtu.be/HNwq3HjPqlY

Here’s after I gutted the pcv. Truck idles smoother but still having issues with smoking. I think I’ll need to add a restrictor to help with that. I think there is too much oil getting by that the built in restrictor of the EFR can’t keep up so I’ll start with a 1.6mm and move to a .7mm if needed.

After PCV gutted and can ran to intake. Before run to test things out.

    https://youtu.be/3D4HXBj1o0s

After taking truck to for a moderate run. Highest speed 75mph Distance 3 miles.

    https://youtu.be/vTUaZo3CuJE

2 hours after letting it sit. Going to try 1.6mm restrictors and last resort .7mm

Found a huge boost leak today after speaking with my tuner that it should be making more than 1psi. Passenger side intercooler pipe was off. Tightened it up and boost came right back! Then the top half came off. Already tightened and ready to go. Going to put a safe tune on it and datalog from there. Maybe this will clean the smoke issue now that the turbos are building boost

What is the oil pressure that your engine runs?

I have a -3AN or -4AN feeding my EFR, and my cold start oil pressure is 90 psi. No smoke from too much oil. No restrictor other that what the turbo came with. Makes me think that it has something to do with PCV hose routings.

Yea I rerouted the catch can already and gutted the pcv and hopefully that fixes it. I'm wondering if the boost leak was causing the smoke because the turbos weren't making boost and draining the oil. Will be doing a couple runs today and see if the smoke comes back. If not it's time for restrictors

Boost should have nothing to do with oil coming out of a turbo, or they'd all leak at idle. Could be because it sat too long, and the oil caked around the seals? Or that the pcv system was being pressurized, which then pressurized the oil and oil feed lines.

Any good way to check that? I think the pcv was being pressurized because after changing up the pcv the truck doesn't idle as high on start up.

Disconnect all vacuum hoses that connect between any boost/charge air intake tubes or areas, from the valve covers.

You can do filter on pcv port > valve cover > valve cover out > pre turbo inlet.

Each valve cover to y-fitting into catch can with outlet breather.

Ok so put the v14 tune on the truck after fixing the boost leaks (still have one more little one by the boost solenoid) and it's finally back to normal I think

Was spiking 15psi and leveled out to 8-10 psi and was hitting 40#/min. Going to datalog and send the results to my tuner for further review and then start turning it up! I beat the truck kinda hard as a shake down and when I got home it didn't smoke some residual oil is in the exhaust still but it should burn off

So went to get coffee this morning and punched it out of my neighborhood. Truck fell on its face and was getting a misfire code. Moved the coil and the misfire followed so cool died. Already ordered a replacement coil and should be here next week. Was a cosmetic reject but functions as new.

These coils have been on since Jan 2019 and the old motor too so they've got some miles and wear on them.

    Easy find and fix.

Been there. Starts out as a heavy terrifying feeling. Then phew, sigh of relief.

Good troubleshooting, glad it'll be an easy fix. I carry around a couple spare coils for this exact reason. Actually just saved my ass the other day when i got off work and fired the truck up it started misfiring. Swapped in another coil and i was on my way

Yea if this could is GTG I'll ordered a few more spares just in case. I'll gladly take $32 coils over $300+ any day for 6 new oem

So little update while I wait for my coil to show up Monday.

Had a broken vacuum cap on my boost solenoid that's now fixed. Had a cap to small and one too big but the old cap fit inside the bigger cap so I was able to make it work.

Next I fixed the pcv connector that melted because it was close to the turbo. Haven't tested yet but it's good for 3500psi and 250*. Will need either heat tape or a tubro blanket to be sure. It doesn't touch the turbo but man is she close to it.

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Also waiting on my FR pcv delete kit to get here today and will try to put it on tomorrow or Sunday along with my AEM failsafe wideband/boost guage

All of those little vacuum leaks would cause soo many troubles. Especially when tuning or trying to tune around them. Eesh.

    Very good finds.

Fixing all of these leaks, either your tune is going to be solid, orrrrr it will now need tweaking. Hmmmm.

Yea going to give it a once over Sunday I think. Can't start the truck because of a bad coil that'll be here Monday but at least it'll be ready for them.

I'm hoping this thing tunes like a dream. I think I'm going to run out of Injectors but let's see what I can max it at. 1200cc injectors and I can only duty cycle them 50% :jerkoff: need to figure if port injection will ever be a thing for my truck but doubtful
