Only set radios up for simplex, avoid the fox hunters. The PMRS frequencies we used are blanked out in the above for reasons of privacy.

We only used them while moving and for required communication...no chatter...or in Mexico where no one cares.

Aside from more practice in the rocks, I made a short list of things needed for trails like Slickrock. Already knew about 1 - 5, but learned about 6 this weekend.

    1. Re-gear
    2. More aggressive tires
    3. Gas tank skid
    4. Communications
    5. More clearance
    6. Potato launcher

Gmrs isn't bad. It would work for trail use. The cost of the handheld units are kinda pricy.

Can't beat it. We used those freq on our way to Moab last yr and when we stopped at the national parks every channel was busy with all the visitors using frs.

That'll weed em out. We were on 14 and switched over to like 3 or 4 and were fine.

Sorry I don't want to hijack this thread. A quick search didn't turn anything up. Is there somewhere here that discuss different coms where I can do some research. I'm not to far from buying something and I'd like it to be somewhat future proof without having multiple units.
