Slide snugtop back to replace cab window?

    Hello,

I have a snugtop on my double cab short bed. Oddly the passenger rear cab window shattered. I have no idea how and simply noticed it after work. To replace obviously I need to remove the shell. Unfortunately the place I purchased the shell from is not able to take it off for a day so that the window can be repaired. They state that they have no room to put the shell.

So what can I do in this case? Move the shell back with some 2x4s and that will be enough to replace the window? Should I be worried about ruining the 'rails' of the shell?

Maybe better to wait until they have space to hold the shell?

I live in an apartment and have no ability to store anything or setup rigging.

    Thanks,

    PJ

A little bit of this, and a little bit of that.
The rails on the shells are all pretty sturdy. They're built to bend and flex a little bit with normal use, so if you slide it back 2 feet or so, and just wedge a 2x4 as a prop on the back, one on each side, you should be absolutely golden. Depending on the attachment system your shell uses, and if it's fiberglass or aluminum, you should be able to just undo the 4 bolts (it's what I had to do for mine for a 3rd brake light recall) and slide the shell back as much as you can, want or need. In theory, that should give you enough space to replace the rear window. I personally put a blanket down in my garage(gravel driveway and garage way up in the boonies where I live) and had a friend swing by and help me lift it off the truck and onto the blanket in the garage(5-minute operation. The longest part was just removing the bolts) If it's one of the fiberglass shells, they're deceptively light(I think somewhere in the realm of 200-250lbs, so there's not much risk, if any, of damaging the shell rails unless you decide that you want to try to see if you can balance on top of it while you have it slid to the back)

No problemo man. I hope that it goes well and isn't too much of a pain in the ass getting it fixed. It's always a bummer when something breaks, especially a window
