Slider install time? Bolt on vs weld?

    Right on then. You weld sliders onto a frame in ~30 min, start to painted finish. Including prep.

    ETA I thought I was decent but it would take me a few hours. Granted, 20 minutes of that would be me getting sidetracked.

    I said four hrs but Okay maybe it only took me 30 min per side to bolt on sliders. Now that I recall I rotated tires, changed the oil and did the laundry too. :cheers:

    C4 sliders here. They bolted on easy and are rock solid. Things take me a while because I'm a bit particular when I'm working on stuff.

    It's just a lot of little welds. Arms to sliders, getting your angles right, plates to arms, plates to frame. Add in beer breaks and duty cycles and it takes a while. That said I'm sure you could rush it and do it in a couple hours. We just took our time to do it as well as we could

    It's because the mobtown bolt on sliders are relatively complex in the way they attach, but it makes for the strongest bolt on option available.
    With mobtown weld on sliders, you don't need to do any of that. Everything is welded together so you just prep frame, line up sliders, and burn them on. I had mine welded on at mobtowns shop and it took maybe an hour and a half.

    Mobtown Bolt on sliders here (BEEFY, best mod on the truck) My installer, (Speed freak is his name on here) got mine done in less then 3 hours, by himself. Granted he does installs all the time. Bolts on are the way to go though in my opinion. Not only are they as strong as weld on’s now, they can easily be removed and transferred to another truck or sold if needed. Or if you need to do some type of repair or maintenance, they can be removed easily. If I ever get a new taco best believe I’m removing my sliders and they are coming with me.

    I know, I know, but I needed a half ton.
    My vote is bolt on, takes me maybe an hour per side to mount my BAMF sliders. Being in New England rust is a big issue and being able to take them off to refinish them is a must.

    I'm a fan of bolt on. When i first started my sas, my truck was being held up by the sliders for awhile. And I've landed on them plenty of times off road.

    Here's why I recommend weld over bolt on. This is 4 years of being installed. Do you really wanna unbolt annually and do damage control?

    I fluid film my frame, that being said my sliders had rust like that when I took them off and the frame of my truck was perfect. Something to consider. I currently have mine off and am trying the POR15 route to see how well that holds up.

    That's a good idea! I have weld on, but wanted to share these pics. As you've proven, there are steps that can be taken to prevent it but another thing to consider with bolt on.

    Yes, they absolutely trap salt in there and it is a good point to note that there can be issues. I took the extra time to really spray between the mounting point and the frame to try and avoid any frame issues. I had mine on for about 4 years before I took them off.

    Thanks for the reality check. This exact scenario has kept me from bolt-on sliders so far. You have confirmed my suspicions about corrosion under the flanges.

    The nature of the problem, as I see it, is no matter what amount of fluid film or other schmoo you spray in there, you are going to get silt and sand in there and the slight movement of the pieces against each other will abrade away any paint or other coating. After the schmoo washes out, you’re going to have rust.

    I wish there was an option where you could weld some “sockets” to the frame, that in turn held the sliders, while still being strong.
