With all the talk about Warranty/mods/Rust/Rails it seems to me that drilling holes in the rail for sliders would cause Toyota to freak out when you present them with any rust on rail issue. I mean we owners are haphazardly drilling holes in the very skeleton of our lovely beasts.

I ask because my wife is short and I ordered a Pro with a factory lift so from day one she is going to have issues getting in. A slider with a step is practically first on the list and I don't have access to a welder or anyone that knows how to. Although, I could do a cold call to a welding shop and pay premium for the task I'm sure. I would probably opt for bolt-ons.

To me this just seems like your asking for trouble.

Just be aware that there are bolt-ons that bolt to the cab (not for offroading) and bolt-ons that bolt to the frame (for offroading).

I was not aware prior to buying and thought all bolt-on sliders were bolted to the frame.

So bolt-on sliders bolt on to existing holes in our rails. That I wasn't aware of.

Your frame only has so many holes for bolts. Give it more support for what the sliders are intended for, you have to drill more holes.

With that being said. They have to prove that your holes you drilled caused the rust. Or the welds you have cause it.
and if that is an issue, then it's better for you to leave the truck stock. No point in adding anything to it if you're scared of warranty issues in the future

Those are not real sliders. They bolt where the factory steps bolt up to. Would hold a humans weight, but doubt it would hold a trucks weight when it falls on a rock

I dunno. I'm pretty sure it depends on the dealer. My dealer inspected, cleared, and then sprayed the rust prevention stuff they use after seeing my sliders. And they were welded straight to the frame. Now if someone were to have problems and bring it in that may have a completely different ending.

Bottom line if you think you're going to have to deal with rust issues, either don't touch the frame with anything and hope your dealer has your back... or go all out and try to manage it yourself.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
Living in San Jose you don't have to deal with rust issues our trucks are not even on the frame recall list out here. As for drilling a few holes just touch them up after drilling and you will be fine. IMO there is no true "No drill" bolt on slider for the 2ng gen Tacoma's yet :spy: there is a few that offer no drill bolt on sliders but I think they still should be drilling as least one more hole the bottom rear of the frame in order to fully support it.

Go for the Bolt on sliders from Eddy at SOS concepts. He is a good guy and the sliders are pretty good price wise.

Who ever gave you that idea...?

I believe it would become a "reverse-onus" scenario.

Meaning, you'd have to prove the holes/welds DIDN'T cause the rust.

I've got bolt on's, no probs what so ever. I can take mine off and put them on another Taco in the future. These things are stronger than my truck.

I could totally see that being the case, in Canada... Any precedent set on that yet ?
