Sliders - guess you gotta pay to play

Every shop around here wants around $300 to weld my sliders on. $200 isn't a bad deal in my opinion. Also check out marlin crawler sliders, those are the ones I went with.

 

buy themfrom scotty then have someone else to weld them on. 200 sounds like a shit ton....

 

I'm sure a college has a welding class around you... Around here you can get the community college kids to do stuff for dirt cheap in the shops.

 

Scott at Addicted Off Road told me they are Chinese steal and welded overseas in China.

That's why I have to pay for shipping from California (where they come into port) to Colorado.

 

Theres been a long debate about wether they do bring them in or not. I recall a thread (45acp build) where a couple guys had this discussion. TacoMX emailed tg and they replied saying all theyre bumpers where made in usa. I can't imagine the costs of shipping those over seas at the price they sell them for so I believe if they said it was made in usa. I haven't personally seen these words written but I trust tacomx

 

As I was told by the guy at the shop bought em from all of the metal is Chinese and they buy in such a ,large quantity that's why they are cheap. Not sure exactly where they are made.

Complete crap. No way it is a 4 hour or $300 job to weld them onto the frame, especially for a good fabricator. Go ask around at different places how much it will cost. If every shop in your area all say at least 200 then they are all in kahootz and are running a racket. Go find a friend with a welder and have them do it in that case. 200 is just nuts

 

The thing is there are plenty of welders around here who will do it cheaper I'm sure. But I want to use someone who 1. welds extremely well and 2. understands what sliders are and how to mount them (angle, protruding, etc)

 

dude, the welds needed to weld on are not hard...anyone who has spent a couple of years in a high school weld shop can do it. And there is only one way to mount TG sliders as they come all pre welded together. No "angles or protruding" anything. Just put frame plates flat on frame and tack down then run beads. There is literally no other way to mount them unless you cut them up and re weld them.

 

why not just buy BAMF and then get bolt ons.

 

PM TacoMX. He emailed TG directly and they said their bumpers are made in usa.

 

That will be even more expensive. Grade 8 bolts are very expensive and not as strong, as bolts can stretch and move. Plus BAMF is pricey to begin with.

 

I paid $40 to weld mine! Id shop around.

 

Interesting. Addicted Offroad was saying they can mount them at a pretty decent (high) angle and tuck them in pretty far.

I was explaining to him that this is a daily driver and I don't wheel the hell out of it... just do some pretty moderate to tough wheeling in the summer.

So he was telling me how he'd weld them on according to my style

 

I know this is a first Gen thread. But my Elite sliders were 330. And j paid a buddy 50 bucks and beer to weld them on. It took him 30 minutes to get them lined up and fully welded on.

 

Costs more.

i really don't see how there is really many different ways to weld them on.



the $300 might be if you were buying the ones that did not come pre welded, and you have to weld on the legs and tabs yourself. In that case then yes, you can custom fit them and it would cost more to weld them together. But if you are going for cheap get the ones that are already all pre welded together like I got. Then you don't need to pay all of the labor to put the sliders together.

Yeah I'm assuming he is talking about the one that is not pre-welded.

And truthfully I would want them "tucked" up a little bit versus maximum protection (almost parallel to the ground)

 

i dont think mine stick out that bad, it provides maximum protection and is used as a step by shorter occupants. I mean the difference is not really that big of a deal
