The Rustoleum bed coating does alright on the bumpers but it's not good for the sliders. It can't stand up to rocks being thrown up by the tires. This is after 1 day on the trails, some at ~40mph.

I would have to agree the Rustoleum bed coating does chip. I have had some chipping but nothing even close to what yours did , at least it’s easy to fix.

Do you have it on your sliders? My bumpers look fine as far as rock chips. The sliders are just in the prime location for flying rocks to hit.

I do have Rustoleum bed liner on my sliders. I like the texture it gives and how easy they are to fix after a day on the rocks but I'm definitely not impressed with the chipping due small rocks kicked up while daily driving.

Mine have never chipped nearly as bad as yours did in the pic you posted. Are you still using the spray liner or did you try something else?

I had some spray liner that I had left for touch ups so I used most of that. Next time it gets messed up that bad I will be stripping it and using something else. I'm still not sure what but it will probably not be textured and it will be cheaper.

damn so people that powder coat them have problems chipping?

How much do you think it will cost to powder coat oem tub steps? Im torn as well with wasting my time painting or going straight to powder coat. Its seems whatever toyota uses is very very durable, from the looks and feel of it seems powdercoated.

My Line X dealer says he will do touchups for free on bumpers, sliders I am considering doing in LineX then touching up with a roll on on the underside.

I am wondering what will hold up to tossed up rocks best and match Line X best.

Mine is pretty good and honest. Touch ups are manually filled and textured with a scotchbrite type pad, then the UV protectant is applied with a brush. He staed he'd do it for occasional small dings, but not if I decide to plow down trees etc. If its repeated its a small fee.

He said sliders he would not do because the damaged area is too large for the touch up method. Thus my roll on touch up on bottom of slider idea.

Its only free on bumpers for rock chips... not scrapping off monthly while rock crawling.

cant go wrong with spray can. No finish will hold up to rocks. Krylon is the easiest to repair.

Even with free touch ups. You really want to be dropping off your truck overnight, all day.. whatever?
I don't even get the free oil changes. Takes a whole GD day. My time's worth more than that and I'd be exposed to the outside, that's no fun.. not with pandemic flu... Ok.. got to keep it under control.. take a pill... ahhh..

I washed with soap and water, then Rustoleum primer, then Rustoleum flat black. Most importantly, I have my front mud flaps on which will keep most of the everyday rocks off the sliders.
