For anyone who has a dog, are the sliders a help or hinderance for your dog to get in and out?

I would get top plates and/or 0 degree if any of it will help my dog get up.

    • 3” total lift over stock
    • Medium sized dog
    • No sliders atm

Any help here is much appreciated!

    Massive hinderance for my Lab.

I got rid of my sliders and I got him a ramp because he’s old now but when I had sliders he had to jump farther to get into the cab and if he missed, it was a significantly higher risk of injury. Especially if one of his arms/legs went in between the slider and my truck.

I would think zero degree with a top plate you'd be ok. You need a top plate of you have a dog or young child for any degree. Either could have something slip through. I have 20 degree with top plates and have a lab but he's a runt and couldn't jump in prior to the sliders. So he gets the full service from me. Most have a rear door kick out so people can step on mine and zero degree would be even easier.

I got a set of the 4wp sliders and my dog seem to appreciate having a step after I lifted my truck. These are flat on top and there is no way she can get her legs stuck between the truck and the slider.20240727_141638.jpg

They're a hinderance for the driver and passengers. My dog is too old, so I pretty much have to lift him in and out. If you wheel and will benefit from them you might as well install them.

I personally think it depends on your dog habits. My truck has an 3inch lift from stock with sliders.

My German Shepherd (2yrs) doesn’t care for it. Also she is young and jumps very high. My Husky (8yrs) does not like my sliders or the doggy steps I got him. I need to physically lift him into my truck.

Sliders could be fine but you will 100% want top plates, I was scared my big old dog was going to break his leg because my sliders are just the bars.

Ended up buying collapsable dog stairs on Amazon….my new dog just jumps into the seat no problem.

My labs have no problem clearing the sliders, but I don't have top plates on the Tacoma and I always assist them in and out. I had a catahoula get his leg caught in the sliders and it was a disaster. He could easily clear them but got excited and jumped too early. The hard part was getting him out as he was in a lot of pain and trying to bite. Had to cover him with a blanket to keep from being bitten and then deal with the leg. I'm a little paranoid about them now whenever my dogs get in and out.

I'd say most dogs would have no problem with the sliders, but please get top plates for their safety. It only takes once.

Custom expanded metal mesh top plate for drainage\snow and for the dog to step on. And yes to 0° offset. 4X Innovations Adam moved from Iowa where he was when I had him build mine to Wi. now.

But, she can jump up onto the back seat of my Stupid Duty(4in +35s) without any hesitation.
I did worry about top plates, and will revisit them next them they're off for rust/paint, because she is start to get older.

I'd get one with plates. My old girl has slipped once or twice and her leg went between the sliders, luckily no injury but spooked me. I put grip tape all around them in the back now because she does put a foot on them sometimes going up or down.

My sliders are a hindrance to humans and dogs, but they have saved my rocker panels more than once as can be observed my the many deep gouges.

I put grip tape on mine, because they get slippery when wet or covered in snow/mud/ice.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback!

Sounds like if my dog will use them, I need to get 0 degree with top plates. He's a puppy still and can't easily jump up to the floor even.

Sliders and running boards should be neither helpful nor hindering to a dog. The dog should be unaware of the existence of such things.

Not an issue for the Dane. My 2500 has side steps and for a big dog, they are more of a hinderence.

This works too. On the freeway you obviously use a leash.
