I paid attention while parking tonight. Seems to happen while I turn the steering wheel at all, maybe something to do with power steering

The chevy colorado I traded in last week didn't surge. Nor did my 03 Dodge Dakota, 2 Ford Rangers, 91 Ford Nite and a 88 Plymouth Voyager I use to own. I can live with it though, I like my 2.7 Tacoma!

power steering does raise the RPMs in cars by a similar amount as AC, so that would make sense. I haven't noticed anything unusual in my truck. my 01 camry 4 cylinder always wanted to just go. On a cold start I could get it to 20 mph without pressing the gas at all, so to me my truck doesn't seem to lurch at all, just seems to sit there. On my dads 2001 silverado, the v8 wouldn't move at all without gas. I believe its just a characteristic of a v6 engine

Mine had nothing to do with turning. I was pointed straight ahead both times. I don't know if I'd call it slight either....when it did it in the garage it was pretty good jerk.

My 2016 does it once in a while too. Usually while inching out of my garage. No warring lights though.

Guys has it been really cold in your areas? Just curious if it could be a cold start issue or something like that.. though I always warm my vehicles up.. Just a shot in the dark at guessing.

Not particularly cold in my area. My garage is actually heated to about 55-60F as well.

Happens to me also. Only notice it when I back out of the garage. Am backing up slowly and usually turning the wheels to not hit the garage door frame. There aren't any warning lights. Still under 400 miles so haven't spent much time analyzing it yet. Has been in the 50-70's, but soon to be in the 30's. Assuming it's just the cold start, but too new to tell. Doesn't get driven everyday.

Happened to me after a full drive home from work, so the engine was definitely warm.

3k Miles on the Sport. It happens to mine at traffic lights and slow starts/stops. More noticeable with a cold engine. I figured this is normal for autos since I've always driven manual. Not really a big deal though.

My 2006 Taco did something similar... when slowly coming to a stop at a light, the tranny would shift to 1st gear and the truck would want to surge forward a little, but I had the brakes on.. no big deal....

After checking my tranny fluid level, I found it to be 3/4 liter down.... Did a "drain & Fill and it never happened again....!!

Maybe we got the 3rd gens coming outta the factory low on fluid like the 2nd gens...??

Don't know... Just saying..!! Maybe a friggin' dip stick would be good, eh...??

Agree.. this is kind of my situation.. I have a shop and I fit my vehicles in there with the rest of my crap and sometimes it's a tight fit.. So I can see this actually becoming a problem. I know to some it's not a big deal but for me it is. My almost 12 year old 4runner with 200K plus shouldn't be that much smoother than this truck to operate. If this is the new norm, it's my first time experiencing it though this isn't my first new vehicle at all. Heck my wife's Camry runs smooth as silk and it's new:annoyed:...

I am getting the momentary surge sometimes when shifting from P to R, but only the first thing in the morning (with headlights on). It seems like it just needs to idle-up for a second to compensate for more demand on the electronics, pumps, etc??? It has never been a safety issue as I have my foot on the brake and pay attention to what I'm doing.

Mine has less than 200 miles on it so I am light on the brake. Not suppose to brake hard the 1st 1,000 miles.

I was light on the brakes when I bought it too, but once I am stopped (which is when mine has the slight surge) my foot is reasonable planted.

Bummer. Be careful, I'm sure Toyota's on it.
