Wish I hadn’t just topped up with 87 before reading this. Delays my experiment. I couldn’t quite tell if it’s higher octane or the no ethanol that was the solution (or both). Most of the ethanol free around here is 87. I may just run premium for a couple tanks and progress from there. I imagine 91 “E free” would add close to 20 bucks to a full up.

2016 auto. Mine feels like it’s chugging in 4th gear at low rpms. It’s similar to when you’re in too high of a gear with a manual transmission.

Pretty sure mine does it in all the high gears, 4, 5, or 6. Any time the rpms are below ~1700 and you are on the gas while putting load on (typically a slight hill). If it drops a gear and rpms go up it goes away.

That’s why most folks are noticing it on slight Uphill grades. The gas pedal is down a bit trying to keep speed but not quite enough to drop a gear. So it’s pulling hard at low RPM.

In my case, I ahve one of the rare 6 speed 2017s. Since I control the rpms manually through shifting, I tend to notice this much more at 2400-2600 than anywhere else in the powerband. The use of high test is significantly better. I hate spending nearly 50 cents more per gallon here in Kalifornia, but that is my reality. I have also bought some cheap after market octane booster. That helps as well. So it seems like compression and octane are in cahoots on this mystery. If not for this issue, I would say this truck is about perfect, given its size. But this issue niggles and pokes at me. I notice it every damn time it happens, and it happens anytime I am on a load climbing in that range.

It seemed that 93 octane helped. I’ve gone to 89 octane just to see but I’ve also got a shiftsense installed now.

I have 32k on the truck. It seems A LITTLE better. I took mine to two different dealerships who said no codes, no evidence of missing, and claimed ignorance about the problem. For the second dealer, I brought a copy of the article that I had, which stated some 2017s are a recall because of cam issue and missing. --Nope, ain't never heard of that. I almost love the truck. But I traded a perfect Tundra for it...primarily for the gas mileage. So having to burn hi-test means my savings is de minimus. GRRRR. It's a great truck--almost. Is it worth taking a $5000 hit to replace it with another used Tundra? Or a 4runner? I don't know. It annoys me everytime I pull a load up a hill, and I tow a lot with small craft. I have 8 boats and build wooden boats.

I, too. have the unicorn 2017 Off Road Access Cab with a manual 6-speed and I have just ran a couple of tanks of Shell Nitro Plus 91 with zero ethanol (E0) and the performance boost is nice, but the stuttering acceleration is still the same. On a slight acceleration at 2000 - 2500 rpm, it has a definite and repeatable shudder, hesitation, or slight missing which only stops if I push the pedal hard or back off.
I rarely need to bomb around at or above 3000 rpm, but the truck runs perfectly if I am heavy on the gas pedal. This is very noticeable in cruise control at highway speeds when a slight uphill is encountered. I am currently Coyoza tuned and running a K&N air filter (not CAI version). I might try KDMAX XXT tune next.

Mine did it once in a long while before the fuel pump recall and now it does it more often.

I just got the Overlander tune from Yotatune in Ottawa, Ontario. So far, the slight miss, or stuttering on acceleration is gone. Now it is just a nice smooth acceleration without having to gear down on the highway. Even in 6th gear at 100km/h, there is smooth acceleration up to 120 km/h without pushing in the clutch and downshifting to 4th or 5th.
