You could always just click over into S4 for driving around town, and use D for highways... That gets rid of the shudder.

Update- went to a different dealership and they indeed felt the shudder as well , they performed TCM update supposedly but did not do anything. It drives
The same . Got shiftsense pro coming in tomorrow . I will see how that changes the shift points!

I'm assuming they said it's "normal"?

Could it be related to the fuel pump recall?

Yes they said it’s normal that people aren’t used to the shudder on this 3rd gen tacos. Service guy said he had another truck with the same issue the week prior. He said he believed Toyota was aware of the issue and might be working on a fix but no solid answer.

Hammerma I have thought about that as well , mine seems to do it more on an incline under load at low rpms while
    It gear hunts. I more
Believe it has to to with it going into a higher gear too quick. Mine gear hunt too much on hills it’s annoying . Goes it to the next gear too quickly making it
Bogg down to around 1100 RPMs

100% agree. Seems only related to low rpms at 40-50mph under slight incline. My 2020 has always done it, so I doubt it's fuel pump related.

My 2021 does the same thing, so I doubt it has much to do with the fuel pump. It's something I'm learning to deal with. Mine will still shudder/buck a little bit in S4 when I'm going up the mountain. The torque converter locking and 1/2 lockup programming leaves alot to be desired. The gear hunting is something I'm somewhat used to as our 2015 Camry's 6 speed has the same logic. The shuddering is something I wasn't expecting.

Think a few of us should contact Toyota directly and bring up this issue maybe they figure out they got a big problem with so many people complaining even on the brand new units. This is by far the most unpleasant vehicle to drive
That I’ve owned . I love everything about the truck besides the transmission .

We're a very small group of owners here, I seriously doubt a few of us contacting Toyota will solve an issue. Most Tacoma owners are the "Soccer Mom" type that are on the current daily driver truck trend. They tend not to care about issues as the such and that's who Toyota will continue to cater to.

Yes I run ovtune 2.0. I'm loving my ride now. Maybe post in the regional section to see if anyone close to you can tune it. But before I got the tune, I drove it in s4 around town and it drove better. Good luck.

Temporary fix. Only really helps under certain driving conditions.

Went this route before settling with the OV tune which isn't perfect, but its MUCH better.

Installed shift sense pro today and I got to say it made an absolute big difference in the drivability of the truck. I got no more shudder, no more gear hunting and the truck feels like it’s got balls. For $175 absolutely worth it. I did not want to mess with changing mappings around on the ecm and so decided to give this a try. I gotta say I’m very satisfied.

Toyota said that’s normal, but if it does not shudder, that’s normal also.

    Oh what a feeling !

Dealerships always trying to find an excuse. It’s clear now that the Factory set shift points are trash.

Well, I guess if @Jrive01a hasn't been on the forum in days, it's a sign that he's out enjoying his truck finally... lol.

    @Jrive01a ???
