The only reason mine was that loud is because when I filmed it, I had no carpet in my truck, and I removed the grommet in the floor so I could accurately capture it on video. During normal driving, I'd only hear it with the window down, music off, and driving next to a car or wall.

That sounds like it varies with load, carrier bearing makes sense.
No. I bought extended warranty out to 100K miles when I bought the truck new.

For me, when it would rain the squealing would go away. My hunch was that the water would act as a lube and stop the noise.

Smart man! Im debating on whether or not taking it to the "stealership" or a local shop. I had a bad experience with my last tacoma and the drive shaft after taking it to Midas so I will never again go to them. The carrier Bearing looks absolutely fine and no major movement at all so Im leaning towards the rear wheel bearing.

Thought I had wasted the money it cost as this was the first claim and the truck has been flawless. Until now.

The CB itself is like $80, and the install shouldn't be more than a couple hundred dollars. It's not too complicated.

Thats not bad at all. I was looking at a video of a bad wheel bearing and mine sounds nothing like that. Now my OCD is kicking in....shit!

So i just took it to a shop and they are saying the carrier bearing is fine which i also think is fine as well. They think its inside the aft end of the drive shaft...what could that be??

Pinion bearing? Might be time to take it to a driveline specialist. http://www.driveshaftpro.com/san-diego

I no longer live in SD I live in Ventura. I appreciate the reference though. The guy at the shop was telling me that the enite drive shaft would need to be replaced which would end up being around $1800. To me that sounds alittle excessive.

I have no idea as I'm not too mechanically inclined. My bet was on the CB.

Uh, yeah. That's way excessive. There have been people on here who have had a custom one piece drive shaft made and it cost them like $500.

I'm also from the area. Grew up in Thousand Oaks!

Rad dude! I appreciate your help and hopefully this can be easily taken care of instead of paying 1800 like that jerk off told me.

Did you ever figure this one out?

It sounds like I have the same noise you had.

Update - I had a a major service that included installing new carrier bearing. That's when noise started. The shop thought it was the rear breaks but they have ruled that out. Now I'm wondering if it's the new carrier bearing itself or a slight misalignment created by the new CB that is causing the u-joints to make the sound. It's driving me kinda nuts trying to find it.

If you found a definitive fix let me know. Thanks!

    That's why I run a tube bumper!
