    Hello,
I've got a new 2023 Tacoma SR Access Cab, V6 and 4x4 with 2,200 miles. When going down a straight and level road, I feel a very slight stutter occasionally. This will go on for about a mile or two then stop. It's almost like there is a problem with a tire or a bumpy road, but when I let off the gas, the stutter goes away. It doesn't feel like it's in the engine either because the engine sounds smooth and the tachometer is staying steady.

I took the truck in for it's first oil change at 1,500 miles. I told the mechanic about the stutter and he said to try half a can of Berryman B-12. That didn't help.

Apparently there was a recall on the transmission but Toyota tells me that it was a programming issue and that it was fixed before I took possession of the truck.

    So I'm wondering....
Is this something that is common with the Tacoma? Any ideas or advise is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave

Berryman B-12??? He could've just been a real man and told you to "F off" to your face, rather than waste your time with cans that don't flush anything other than your wallet.

Back to the question; these are quirky lil trucks, I would test drive another, it probably does the same. Sorry and GL.

HAHAHA I'll admit it. I do use Barryman on my 2009 Nissan about once a year. So letting them share a can didn't bother me. But you're right, I think he should have just told me to "F-off". HAHAHA

I don't have the answer; but I can. hazzard a guess. Most of the time these trucks run on direct fuel injection. This will insure the engine is getting the most power it can out of the fuel. On occasion, exactly when is known only to the ECU, it will switch to port injection to clean the valves of any carbon buildup. Can you feel that switch? I don't know but suspect a sensitive driver on a smooth road running very evenly might feel the cycle occur.

    That's what I was wondering.

Nope, I can't say that I feel any switch over. It only lasts for a minute or two.

I think I know what your talking about. Mine isnt terribly pronounced but I do notice the feeling, hard to explain. It usually occurs cruising in a higher gear at lower rpm's? Best I know to describe it is that it feels like the beginning of a bog down in the transmission, like being at the point in a manual where you have to decide if you can ride it out or need to downshift.

That's very close to the feeling but you don't hear the engine making that stuttering sound. The engine is going strong and smooth but it's like there is a computer taking the transmission in and out of gear for a split second.

Normal they all do it, some worse then others though. One of the many many many quirks of the 3rd gen Tacoma

Don’t look for anything, just change the oil and drive the S outta of it.

Interior rattles, squeaks/clunks from the suspension and driveline, water dripping onto the passenger floor mat in the summer from the hvac box “sweating” . A/c whistle from the vents, howling rear differential, front timing cover leaking oil, list goes on. Not saying you’ll have all those problems but those are just some very well known issues these trucks have that have been discussed over the years . Some I’ve personally experienced

Yeh thats probably exactly whatevers going on in mine. Feels like the computer is trying to hold on to its current gear as long as possible. Makes me wonder what all is going on and wonder about the torque converter.

Im noticing all sorts of sounds and feelings from this truck lol! But apparently these trucks have been noise makers for a long time, so Im just checking out what I can and saying "whatever" and rolling with it.

These are adaptive transmissions. Give it around 8000 miles to settle in. Get the fluid level checked for peace of mind.

    Thanks guys,
I feel better knowing that it's just a Tacoma quirk. However, Gfenza89 is scarring the heck out of me. Hahaha

This is why you get a 5th gen 4runner made in Japan. The real Toyota quality

I’ve had some really bad luck with the few 3rd gen tacomas I had . Don’t panic over what I said but you asked and what I said is the truth . Hopefully you don’t have any issues !

I'm not really worried. However, a list like that helps me to know what to look out for. It's better to be proactive with maintenance. Also, knowing the quirks ahead of time also helps so I don't panic over little things.
