You are pretty close here. This is the shudder many of us experience. It is the transmission logic trying to stay in the higher gear, knowing that if it could, for just a few seconds longer, it wouldnt have to lock the torque converter, or shift to 5th, or fourth, then right back to 6th, in a few seconds. I liken it to a vehicle, (motorcycle or automobile) with a manual transmission, slightly in the wrong gear, and needs a downshift but, we ride it out. The engine logic calls for a shift or locking the converter, due to rpms, load and throttle position, but, the translogic either says yes too late, or preemptively shifts or locks too early. You get the shudder or the shift dance, down, up, down up... Even on flat ground. Driving with your foot can mitigate it, driving in cruise calls for more shifts down, than locking the converter, for the extra rpms the logics are asking for. It is what it is. some of us are more sensitive about it, than others. Ski

So to counteract the stutter/shudder, I could use the manual shift and put it 5th and go from there. It may use a little more gas but it will be a smoother ride. I wonder if putting it in "Tow Mode" would help with this.

leave in 4th below 50, leave in 5th below 60. If it keeps doing the dance, drop a gear. Ski

My 2021 has the stutter as well. I feel it when going up a particular hill on my commute home. I usually just mash the skinny pedal or throw it into S mode. It bugs me a bit, but I don't think there is a problem, it's just the way the truck works...

Same thing here, there is an incline that drives me crazy on the way home from work. I think I found a way to reduce the stutter by exerting a certain amount of pressure on the gas pedal. There is a dead spot in the pedal travel where my speed won't change with varying pressure, but the truck seems happier when I'm pushing on the lighter end. Oddly enough, I have also climbed the hill with cruise control engaged and however the truck calls for power in CC keeps the stutter at bay. Lots of quirks

I've noticed a dead spot too. It's small but it's there. I figured that it was a computer thing because the throttle body is controlled by wire.

I have the same issue in my 2023 TRD sport. As a tech of 20 years (recently turned to being a parts guy) it drives me nuts. I spent most of my life looking for vehicle issues, and I can't turn off that skill. I got a pedal commander and it makes controlling the issue using the pedal a lot easier. I was "anti" pedal commander until I bought this truck. Without it I might have gotten rid of it before hitting 2k miles. I feel like you can feel EVERYTHING in this truck. My stock tires had a vibration at 53mph... I swapped my TRD wheels with Falken Wildpeak AT3's from my 4th gen 4runner onto it and it was still there. I went down the rabbit hole measuring driveline angles and checking U-Joints... nothing. Finally got pissed enough and bought Michelin Defender LTX M/S tires last weekend.... the vibration is gone, thank God. But I do still feel everything on the road. I am considering swapping the rear shocks to the OR or Pro shocks.

I swapped the rear shocks on my OR to 5100s (haven't done the front yet) and it made a big improvement in ride quality and dynamics. The ORs feel underdamped stock not sure if it is the same for the Sports.

For my 30 minute city commute I just leave my truck in S-4 with ECT on. For me it makes for a more enjoyable driving experience. I've found a roughly 1mpg hit. YMMV.

My 19 does the same. I have noticed it goes away if I use the cruise control.

I had 5100s on my 4th gen 4Runner and liked them. I was considering them or 4600's for my Taco. Something has to give with this setup. With an empty bed it feels like the rear tires are skipping even on smooth pavement from 50-65mph. With 200lbs of sand in the bed it is MUCH better.
