It's about time for me to get new tires to replace the stock AT20s. I've decided on the BfGoodrich KO for increased off-road performance, but I don't know if I should go with the stock width of 245 or the slightly wider width of 265. This Tacoma is my daily driver, so would an extra 20mm measurably change fuel consumption/acceleration? I may be too concerned, but I'm not sure if the 2TR/trans is that easily affected. Thanks in advance

I believe many folks on this forum have done that. I have 265s (load range E) on mine. The speedometer and odometer are just about right on with them. The only thing I noticed is that I run it a bit faster before shifting. I stay out of 5th (manual transmission) below about 45 mph.

KOs are significantly heavier than the dunlops even in same size as they are heavier duty LT tires. You can view the specs including weight at tirerack.com. If you are concerned about MPG you may want to reconsider the BFG KO tires.

I understand the concern about MPGs and heavier tires. However, my experience has been that driving habits have more effect on gas mileage than that weight. As I mentioned, I have load range E tires on mine and get much better gas mileage than most of the folks here report for their 4 bangers.

I haven't noted a drastic change in MPG's from my Firestone Destination LE to BFGoodrich KO's. I did however went from 265 to 245. The MPG's average anywhere from 17-18 city to 20-21 highway. The speedometer wasn't affected either. If you get a bigger KO, that will effect MPG's severely, but 265's shouldn't affect it that much.

    EDIT: Spelling

If people are so concerned over gas mileage, they shouldn't have bought a truck IMHO. I understand if you want to maintain optimal mileage for long travel times, but that's about it. Trucks just outright suck in MPG's.

If you go the 245 route I would love some pictures,
I too am ready to change out the stock Dunlops but also considering price as some online tire dealers have the 265 BF Gs cheaper than the 245s.

I would love a reason to get a leveling kit and all,

Here's mine with 245s. The first image is stock suspension. The front view is with the Billies set @ .85 with sport coils.

I went from P245/75 Dunlop to 265 Hankook Dynapro and Cooper ATP P265/75, weight difference is approx. 10 lbs per tire and 1.2" in height, MPG went from 23/24 average to 18/19 average with 2.7 and auto trans.

I actually went from 265's down to 245's. To be honest, I have not a clue as to why I went back to the stock size lol. I'm thinking about upgrading to some 33's.

    Please do, thanks.
I'm in Asheville so it probably wouldn't be difficult to meet up and swap tires for cash.

I have had 265/75/16's on mine (all stock) for almost 9 months with zero issues.
    These are BFG RTerrains's, 10ply LT's.
Gas mileage is only slightly worse, and i didn't even notice road noise like i thought
i would. A much better look and feel compared to the 245's AT-20's.

Diameter and weight of a tire will affect your mileage more than width. Which 265 size are you referring to? 265/70/16 is the same diameter as your 245/75/26 but slightly wider. This size comes stock on TRD OR models. 265/75/16 is one inch taller than your current tires. If your concern is mainly mpgs, stick with the stock size. Also, going with a P rated tire versus LT will save you some weight, and therefore help your mileage.
For reference- I was averaging 20mpg on stock P245/75/16 tires and factory suspension. After new suspension and installing LT265/75/16C tires, I am now averaging 17.5. Some of that loss probably came from the change in aerodynamics cause by lifting the truck, but I have no way of knowing how much.
