I read a few post where some of you are experiencing a slight rough idle while stopped at a light. Is this a common for these trucks? Bcuz I have a 2011 pre runner I 've notice it during stops at lights. And for those who have taking their truck to the stealerships what was the results?

    Forgot about this thread..

Is your defrost on or a/c?
I hear a grind when mine is on, which is normal its just the a/c motor running. (It's not a grind, just sounds like a grind)

But I also have a rough idle at stops. What are your rpms at a stop typically? Do they fluctuate (100 or more?) when you feel this rough idle?

Check out the suggested threads below.. I got from two of them that new spark plugs would help, and taking out the secondary air filter. I don't think it is anything you should worry about.

Same here, I sit in my car with nav/radio etc on sometimes and it's surprisingly rough at idle. I noticed it from day one. I'm going for my first oil change this weekend and maybe it's better, but if not it isn't a big deal for me, but noticeable.

btw it does it in park, drive, Ac on/off whatever so I think it's just something to do with my truck. If all else fails, I'll blame the California emissions mods.. lol

Sometimes, my RPMS will be raised for a few seconds, then drop a few hundred and stay there..

    Rumble describes it really well.

Can't say it bothers me, but i usually have some music going.

I actually don't notice it when at stoplights in drive, but in park I do.

Yup, my v6 did it very noticeably, and my 4 cyl does it despite its twin balance shafts. Sitting at a light it either motor feels like a small diesel shaking under the hood.

I think Toyota's budget for Tacoma NVH suppression was sixty eight dollars plus a pizza, give or take a buck.

Mine is noticeable because it will rumble fit a few seconds, then stop.....then start....

I don't have this problem with my Tacoma, but with the symptoms you guys are describing it leads me to believe that you need to remove and clean your idle air control valve. Don't know what that entails on these trucks, but I have had to do it to many cars experiencing the same problems. Its the electronically controlled valve that lets air bypass around a closed throttle body butterfly, regulating idle. Most have screens that get dirty due to pcv, and bad air filters, they gunk up pretty well. Give it a try.

Hmm maybe we need the engine tune up because my truck and my buddies are all above 175k maybe we just need a tune up, or the valves are not seated right, now that i think about it on one of out irrigation engines thevalves became "unseated" and it would have a rumble/shake to it and after i reseated them it was fine :notsure:

I have the same issue on my 2012 4x4 LB with only 3k miles. I have brought it up to my service technicians. They have thoroughly checked it out and concluded that almost all of the newer Taco's do this. I even had one of the service managers drive it (who owns the same truck) and she said hers did it as well. The weird thing is, I've ridden in a few older Taco's (2008 and 2009) which did not have this issue. My guess would be, as you guys mentioned earlier, either a secondary air filter or some new piece of emissions equipment restricting air flow. I know its annoying, especially if you notice every little thing like me. But I would somehow try and not worry too much about it.

more than likely it is an injector with a slightly disturbed resistance/impedance, I have it on mine occasionally, but it is an older truck 225,000 on the odometer, I found that Seafoam and 1/2 tank of gas (regular without ethanol) instead of the full tank will smooth it out, it not, then you may have to check the resistance on each injector to find the culprit...

just a thought, been there before...

I bought it with 40k, now has 67k. Noticed it right off the bat. strange.
I even removed the secondary air filter. Running a K&N. Breathes well??? Stumped.

HOLY CRAP, that exactly what I'm experiencing. Here I thought, crap, my truck is messing up. But, sounds like it's normal-ish. A bit more reassuring.
